The shocking thing here is that he was charged in 2006 and yet Alexander Keith's continued to use him in their advertising campaigns.  That is disgusting.

TORONTO - A Toronto actor known for his role as a loud, beer-loving Scotsman in Alexander Keith's television commercials has been sentenced to 20 months in prison on child porn charges.

Former Keith's pitchman Robert Smith - known for his catchphrases like "Mr. Spilly Pants" and "label peeler" - was sentenced in a Toronto court on Monday.

Crown prosecutor Allison Dellandrea said the sentence will help dispel the myth "that those who possess child pornography and child abuse images are somehow not responsible for the abuse committed against children in those exploitative images."

The sentence demonstrates that people in possession of child porn are directly responsible for the abuse, she added.

The judge in the case said the 43-year-old Smith had a "profound and abiding obsession with child pornography."

Toronto police first observed him downloading images and videos of children being sexually exploited from a file-sharing website.

Police raided Smith's home in 2006 and found more than 1,100 child porn files on two computers, along with 14 CDs.

The married father of two pleaded guilty to three child porn charges in May.

The fact Smith has two boys, aged four and seven, influenced the length of the sentence, said lead investigator Det.-Const. Nicki Laxamana.

"It's disgusting and I think the judge made a good point when he said it was an aggravating component to the sentence," she said.

I do not believe that your allegation against the brewery is remotely substantiated at all. When the actor was initially  a suspect the police started to investigate him with surveillance and the undercover work was over a period of months. Nobody including the beermakers knew about it. When they used a warrant and arrested him in 2006 the company immediately severed ties with him and pulled all the campaign aspects.

"Labatt, which owns the specialty brand, said it will terminate its relationship with the actor and scrap the advertising campaign.

"When it was confirmed that this was the actor in question, we very quickly and swiftly made the decision," Jean Lepine, brewery spokesman told CTV."

Where do you see anything that indicates the company knowingly harbored or tolerated a creep like him?

That guy should face longer a long time in jail and a longer time in psych. therapy. Once they set him out on a bail or after that 20 months sentence, I think that he'll just get back to his old, vile habits. The streets are not safe with sex offenders around. :(
