MUSSOORIE, 13 Jan: Rajesh Nautiyal, the Coordinator of the ‘Aglar Ghati Vikas Manch, Jaunpur’ made allegations of rampant corruption against a Junior Engineer, who is presently posted at Sub-Division Kempty in the Irrigation Department.
At a press conference held at a hotel, here, he further alleged that the JE was forcing the contractors to dole out huge sums as bribes before granting contracts. He alleged that the engineer was asking for Rs 10,000 from each contractor as interim bribe and promising to grant lucrative contracts in the sub-division.
Rajesh Nautiyal further said that whenever the JE was questioned in this regard, he issued threats based on his good connections and the commission that had already been sent to higher officials.
Rajesh Nautiyal warned that if no investigation was undertaken and relief granted, then the contractors would be forced to take to the course of agitation and enforce closure of the office from 20 January.
Others accompanying Rajesh Nautiyal were of the view that if a thorough investigation was carried out, more corruption would come to light involving the JE. Some of them pointed out that he was building a huge mansion for himself in Dehradun.
The rampant corruption in the Irrigation Department is not a new phenomenon and the 14% corruption rule is prevalent in the state with the cooperation of the contractors. However, the JE has been asking for the money in advance.
Nautiyal and the others said that if there was to be a vote on the most corrupt man in Uttarakhand, the JE would come out on top.
Nautiyal said that a complaint had been sent in writing to the Chief Minister and the Irrigation Minister.
The JE, when contacted, was not available for comments.
Vinod Nautiyal, Rajendar Rathore, Sardar Singh Mall, Vikram Singh Panwar, Prem Singh Panwar, Sansar Singh Rana, Rajpal Singh Rawat and others were present on the occasion.

You can very well imagine what kind of Material the contractors must be putting in the Roads and bridges. They are really dangerous.
A friend of mine has a story to tell according to him one day he saw an Junior engineer scolding a contractor on the road for putting low quality tiles for the road and he broke few tiles saying it was sub standard. The next day same engineer was coming in the truck whic was carrying the same tiles. The under hand commision was recieved by the engineer it was suspected after that same tiles were good enough.
