Alleged Hells Angel gets house arrest
Opinion:
A cocaine trafficker and Hell's Angles Associate gets house arrest? Is Wally Oppal going to tell us that this is in line with the sentence this criminal would get in other jurisdictions? The guy sold almost 2 pounds of coke to an RCMP officer! Do you get much guiltier than that? It almost make one consider a life of crime considering the cost-benefit analysis.
Alleged Hells Angel gets house arrest Conditional sentence delivered after plea bargain Chad Skelton, Vancouver SunPublished: Friday, August 08, 2008VANCOUVER - An alleged Hells Angels associate has been sentenced to 18 months of house arrest after pleading guilty to trafficking cocaine.
Chad James Barroby, 30, was arrested in 2005 as part of a massive RCMP biker gang investigation known as E-Pandora, which targeted the East End chapter of the Hells Angels.
Barroby was charged with a number of offences including trafficking cocaine and committing an offence in association with a criminal organization.
On June 25, Barroby made a plea bargain with prosecutors, agreeing to plead guilty to trafficking cocaine in exchange for the Crown staying the criminal-organization charges.
In an agreed statement of facts filed with the court, Barroby admitted he delivered 26 ounces of cocaine to paid RCMP agent Michael Plante in Surrey in October 2004 on behalf of another man -- identified only as "A.B." -- who was paid $28,000 for the drugs.
On Wednesday, Barroby was sentenced by B.C. Supreme Court Justice Peter Leask to an 18-month conditional sentence order and a 10-year firearms prohibition. He received no time behind bars.
The conditional sentence puts Barroby under a curfew and requires him to perform 100 hours of community service.
Crown prosecutor Martha Devlin said she asked Leask to sentence Barroby to a three-year prison term and the defence asked for a 12-month conditional sentence.
Devlin refused to say what she thought of the sentence Barroby received. She said she doesn't plan to appeal the sentence.
Barroby's lawyer Jason Gratl said "at the end of the day ... a fair result was achieved [and] his sentence was proportionate to his fault."
Two other alleged Angels associates -- David Pearse and Kerry Ryan Renaud -- also pleaded guilty to drug charges on June 25.
They are due to appear in court for sentencing on Sept. 18.

I guess he'll have to sell out of his house for 18 months. Hope the zoning is mixed-use. Wouldn't want him to go on unemployment.

It could be good for him. Maybe he could learn other skills more appropriate for house arrest...like cyber crime or stock fraud.
