Aloma Elementary school in Winter Park Florida is on Lockdown. They are not releasing any students at this time. It seems there was an Accident near the school in the last hour or so. A fugitive fled from the scene and the Police are looking for the individual. Until they find the individual or the police give the Ok that it is safe to release students they will be allowed to leave their classrooms.

The children on buses were finally released at about 3:50, parents can pick up their children with proper id. Walkers and bike riders are still not being released for their own safety.

Thank You Karen. The School had sent out a message by phone to informparents of the situation but did not let us know when the problem had been taken care of. My son just got home. Its nice to see the electronic/Digital age be a tool for parents to use in time of concern.

They are still in lock down as of 4:40 p.m. I talked to the sheriff and they said a wreck had occurred and the suspect had fled the scene and they are looking for him. They will not let walkers/bike riders leave for there own safety.

Schools seem to often be on lock-down in Florida! Sounds to me like there is someone in the area with a gun. That's usually the case when a lock-down occurs . . . .

Rather safe than sorry. Forida schools do exercise Lock down, I'd rather them not risk my child's safety and the safety of other kids than to not. And most times they are on Lockdown due to weather, not guns.

the school handled this lockdown so wrongly it is just mind numbing. keeping 300+ parents outside and only letting them in one at a time was stupid. it is great to have a plan to keep our children but they should also have a plan to letting them go, becuase the one they got now sucks. i would expect to see this more often - this principal is a security nutjob and will lockdown the school for any little thing.

They are county rules not the principals. It is for the safety of All involved. Give them a break. At least your child was safe. I know most parents and people are just so tied up in their own lives they cant practice a little patience. It may have been inconvenient but at least they have a solid policy and stick to it.
