Am I a Liberal??

In the United states about 40% of the people are conservative, about 1/3 moderate and 20% liberal. Many on the left place me with the conservatives. I am a little to the right of center but am liberal on many issues. I am not democrat or republican and mostly oppose both parties. I am registered Libertarian but oppose some of their policies.

I 95% oppose capital punishment.

I did not vote for Sarah Palin or George Bush. Or Obama.

I don't want Palin as president.

I oppose war.

I favor some legal abortions.

I support full legal rights for same sex couples.

I oppose discrimination against any group because of gender, race, ethnicity, orientation, religion, non religion.

The patriot act is a disgrace.

Guantanamo should be closed, the prisoners tried, released, or treated as POWs.

Bill Clinton was not a bad president.

So far Barack Obama is not a bad president.

Don't ask, don't tell should be repealed.

Invading Iraq and Afghanistan were probably mistakes.

The war on terror is not a war but a police operation.

Domestic spying without a warrant should be illegal.

Torture is never justified.

There is more but this should show I am not a far right partisan and I oppose republicans as much as democrats. Comment at will.

The political left/right positionings are for the dogmatic/partisans and have for reasons of 'moral superiority' destroyed the character of both political terms. Since the political definitions didn't suit their need for emotional/moral superior context they have replaced them with common dictionary definitions. Therefore Liberal now means that Liberal policies generally emphasize the need for the government to solve problems. And Conservative now means that Conservative policies generally emphasize empowerment of the individual to solve problems. While both statements are true on their face they are not definitive, absolute, unyielding or incompatible to good governance as the dogmatic partisan would have us believe. Any Liberal who believes that government should solve all our problems, or any Conservative who believes government should not play any role - are equally wrong in their outlook. Aside from the extremes, both Liberals and Conservatives are necessary moderating elements in the political/government balancing act. Neither should ever be allowed to run unchecked.

158, per what you post in your above article, I wouldn't say you're anywhere near right of center..Being of the beliefs you state, actually being mostly left to far left. Anyway welcome to the left of center maybe..lol

I, like you, are left, right, and neither at times.. Plus what .30-06 states, I would even suggest our political process and overall government has become somewhat dated in function and effectiveness for today's demands. Maybe it's actually time for a somewhat more enlighten government structure and public process to be formed.

Our government seems to have become corrupted by powerful corporate, banking, and military interest; and manipulated political and judical processes among other reasons.

yes, people like you will change everything :)  in your next {possibly} life..  last American revolution was in 1776. in 60ies it was just an intermezzo. I see no change coming. and would it be useful ?

This sounds quite promising. I would place you at moderate-to-left, same as me.
