The Seattle native and former University of Washington student is now a murder suspect, waiting in an Italian prison while a judge decides whether she should stand trial for the November 2007 killing of British student Meredith Kercher in Perugia, Italy.

Prosecutors claim Knox slit Kercher's throat while Raffaele Sollecito held her down and Rudy Guede tried to sexually assault her. The judge's decision was expected today. But it's nearly 9 p.m. in Italy and there's been no word. The Times of London expects the decision Wednesday.

Knox's youth, class and beauty, combined with the mystique of overseas travel and whispers of an unseen dark side have made the once-unknown honor student a central character in an international crime drama. But it was the Internet that gave her a starring role -- and made her an icon.
