Murder Investigation Underway, Baby Found Safe

Now that her child has been found, police return their focus to solving the death of 24-year-old Alisha L. Spencer. Spencer's body was found Saturday near a driveway on Sim Street in southwest Atlanta. She had been shot to death

DECATUR, Ga. -- A baby, reported missing after her mother was found murdered, was found safe and sound Wednesday afternoon.  Authorities located Precious Diamond Spencer at the home of a friend in on Daisy Drive in Decatur.  Alicia Spencer was friends with the woman who lives in that home, and sometimes, left the baby in care of that family. That is what she did Sunday, and then Monday, Alicia Spencer was found shot to death in southeast Atlanta. Police feared whoever killed Alicia, might have had the baby.

Precious was safe in the arms of her grandmother and aunt on Wednesday afternoon, two days after her mother was found in a vacant building on Sims Street in southeast Atlanta.  "The mother of the child is deceased, right now," according to Atlanta Police Officer James Polite at an earlier news conference, announcing the search for the child. "A vehicle was just found at an unknown location, and the child is missing. We're very, very concerned about this child."

The 24-year-old mother was last seen over the weekend. On Wednesday, police found her Honda Accord abandoned on Glenwood Avenue, but with no sign of Precious until mid-afternoon. It turned out the baby was right where Alicia left her Sunday at a friend's house in Decatur

Atlanta Police and the GBI issues a Levi's Call just before noon Wedneday after police identified the woman and learned she had a six-month-old child. Police received a tip that the baby, Precious Diamond Spencer, was at a home at 3688 Daisy Drive in DeKalb County. She was found there about three hours after the alert was issued.

Police say the baby was last seen with her mother Saturday but they did not issue the Levi's Call because they had been unable to identify her.

A comment, politisite and all: Amber alerts can be handled by running a ticker on this site. I ran the ticker on one of my websites; it was pretty active. To me, an Amber alert, on its own, isn't a news story. If we all start filing Amber alerts as news stories, we can fill up the slots daily.

Let's discuss.

I have run the ticker on my sites as well.  I get automatic alerts and when they are local, I post them.  This Amber Alert is connected with the Murder of the Childs Mother.  Staff thinks this is a good idea.

jordan  at 13:07 on February 28th, 2008  good stuff:

This is a great way to leverage NP for spreading alerts that we can actually respond to.

Lets open this up to discussion.  I would like to hear others views on posting Amber Alerts

I just started AA on my PC a few days ago after reading about it in a book.

The site I found the AA (webroot)  hasn't updated since 2002.

Thanks, If you noticed my Amber Alert posts in the past were because there was immediate danger to the child or society as a whole.
