America Lost Early Opportunity To Solve UFO Mystery In 1947
In 1947 post war America was still recovering from the effects of global war on the US economy and the huge influx of veterans coming home and seeking jobs. However, something happened in Roswell, New Mexico that sparked what would be a decades long controversy that rages to this day.
The Star Witness Reports His Findings
After evaluating the bizarre debris recovered at the ranch of Mac Brazel some distance away from Roswell Army Air Field, Major Jess Marcel returned to base and reported his findings to base commander Colonel Butch Blanchard. It was Blanchard who would authorize Lieutenant Walter Haut to deliver an official Army statement of the recovery of a disk on rancher, Mac Brazel's land tp the local Roswell media. The resulting chaos and hysteria that would flood the airbase's phone lines with incoming calls from all over the world led General Roger Ramey to use a classic counter intelligence tactic in order to deflate the controversy.
The Fix Is In
Ordering the debris to be diverted from Wright Patterson to Carswell AFB in Ft.Worth, Texas, Ramey ordered Jesse Marcel to pose with actual weather balloon debris that had been substituted from the actual alien debris that the Major had recovered from the crash site at Brazel's ranch. The mysterious alien disk was to be announced as misidentified weather balloon debris commonly seen by New Mexico residents. General Ramey also appeared in photos taken by photographer James Bond Johnson of the Ft. Worth Star Telegraph newspaper.
Skillfully Hidden
Meanwhile General Nathan F.Twining had developed an intelligence estimate of the situation and delivered it to the joint chiefs of staff at the Pentagon. It was clear that in his report that Twining marveled at the superior flight characteristics of the unknown disks that exhibited incredible speed and maneuverability compared to the best fighter aircraft that could be fielded by US armed forces. He recommended that these unknown objects were not hoaxes, products of imagination, or mirages. They were real! Twining's next move was just as brilliant in hiding all telltale signs of the UFO existence as indeed General Roger Ramey's idea had been. Twining would order the recovered crash debris from Roswell to be moved into the Foreign Technology Division right under the noses of the US public and press. This would achieve the ultimate in taking ultra secret evidence and sequestering it in the most easily overlooked of places.
According to Philip J. Corso, who served as a Captain in Army Intelligence and had been stationed at Ft. Riley Kansas at the time of the Roswell Incident, the Roswell artifacts, as they were called, would sit quietly beyond the purview of many military agencies who sought the material in order to back engineer it for advanced weapon and flight capabilities. It was a power struggle that would eventually result in the seeding of technology that would put mankind decades ahead of his scientific development in transistors, electronic chips, fiber optic cable, lasers, carbon fiber construction, and pilot to aircraft interface. All these facets of technological progress would eventually be quietly conveyed to US defense contractors as confiscated foreign technology that needed to be studied and replicated. Under the shrewd stewardship of General Arthur Trudeau. The General encouraged Corso to secretly implement the alien artifacts from the Roswell crash into the development of practical human technology.
Decades Old Paper Trail
Although debunkers have tried to dismiss the Roswell incident as the misunderstood deployment of Project Mogul or the sighting by local residents of anthropomorphic dummies recovered from high altitude flights, there are many facts that remain beyond explanation. When House of Representatives member Steven Schiff entered the controversy and directed the GAO to investigate government records that might clarify facts about the Roswell Incident. What he came up with was even stranger than fiction. The GAO could not find any records at all on projects related to the Roswell Crash, but did determine that base operations records for the days of July 1947 in question were mysteriously and illegally destroyed. This indicated that something of major importance had been intentionally covered up.
The Truth Speaks For Itself
The second prevailing factor that contradicts the accusations of fraud, hoax, or mis-identification is for us to go back to the original findings of Major Jesse Marcel, an expert on the nuclear arsenals of the world. He had personally briefed President Truman on such classified information. Marcel testified that the crash debris found on Mac Brazel's ranch was not of this world. He stated that the wafer thin metallic substance could not be cut, burned, or dented. That the strange material was light yet was virtually indestructible. He pointed out that the thin metal had memory and could be wadded up and would then return to its original shape. In 1947 mankind had no such composite substances or alloys that would have been capable of such characteristics.
A Cover Up That Nearly Succeeded
Had it not been for the efforts of Stanton Friedmen and Charles Berlitz to re-open the investigation of the Roswell mystery in 1980 with their co-authored book, "The Roswell Incident" the entire situation may have remained forgotten. Physicist, Stanton Friedman who had worked on several defense contracting projects for the federal government had been notified of the dying Jesse Marcel Senior's admission on local TV in Louisiana about his discovery back in 1947. Marcel was in the final stages of terminal lung cancer and had wanted to get the story off his chest and into the public eye while he still had time. The young Major had been so impressed by the bizarre wreckage that he had actually taken some of it home to show his wife and son, but once the incident had been ordered classified, he reluctantly took the sample back to base and warned his wife and son not to mention the subject again. Decades later, Jesse Marcel Jr. would undergo regressive hypnosis in order to better recall his memory of the alien substance that he father had shown him as a young boy back in 1947.
Others Come Forward
Jesse Marcel Senior's admission of the Roswell Incident decades later would be followed by the public announcement by several other veterans of the armed services who had been involved in the Roswell affair. They too were looking for a way to release the heavy burden of a secret that they had been ordered to keep for a long time and had been wanting to tell family as well as the world.
Averting Public Hysteria
However, Roswell represents something even more significant than just the secret of an apparent alien crash so many years ago. It also represents the unwillingness of the government to come forth with the truth in front of the American people and simply admit what had happened. Fears of mass hysteria and a social breakdown may well have fueled the military's rationale in choosing to use secrecy and denial to maintain a veil of control over releasing the actual facts to the American people and the world. The chaotic events that occurred after an Orson Wells radio program, a live re-enactment of H.G.Wells "War of the Worlds" science fiction novel causing a panic when listeners thought they were hearing an actual news presentation, may have also influenced the thinking of the government in refusing to be candid about the events in Roswell.
Be that as it may, it is obvious that mankind lost an opportunity to step boldly into the future and grasp a larger reality that might have helped civilization transform faster into a higher awareness about our relationship with the universe. It would have answered an age old question that has plagued human society for centuries and that would have been, "Are we alone or are there others out there in the universe besides us?"
