As an almost-disinterested outsider its almost humorous to see how the world is so fascinated with United State's President candidate Senator Obama.
Newspapers all over the world seemed to take a rapt interest even in the most ridiculous like his speech intonations and even the colour of his gym shorts. The Mccain's party had even wryly adopted what the Hillary camp mocked it as "The media' love affair with the senator". From recent media survey, it's not just the media now, it's pretty much just about everyone except...the Americans.
"I think the world is keenly interested in this election; I think they're hungry for a sense of where America's going," Obama said, standing in the aisle of his campaign plane. "Certainly there's a curiosity factor involved."
Even the Indonesian media quipped that if the United States fails to elect him as the President, they would unofficially appoint him as the President of Indonesia instead.
And incuding the fact that while Senator Obama was in Berlin, 700 policemens were deployed during his visit?.
Vernon Thomas, an 18-year-old tourist from Omaha, Nebraska, said that he was astounded by the support that he has seen in Germany for the Democrat, The Associated Press reported.
"I think it's amazing; there are more people to see him here in Berlin than in my hometown," Thomas said. "For someone to get that much support in a foreign country, it's spectacular."
It was reported that Obama had even won the elections, in Europe that is. Germany and other European Countries had by landslide votes of 86% preffered Obama for the premiership.
As I recalled Maureen Dowd had even joked in IHT, :
At moments, Obama was acting as though he were already "on a coin," as Jon Stewart would say. But cocky or not, he needs to swoop up to conquer so Americans can picture him in the role.
The world seems to be overwhelmingly ready for someone who carry less rowdy policies and less bad puns but the only question now, are the Americans?
