American Airlines Flight 1487 Was Forced to Turn Back to Chicago's O'Hare Airport After Getting Struck By Lightning

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the plane was thought to have been struck shortly after takeoff, and was forced to turn back as a precautionary measure.

No one on board the aircraft was hurt and all the passengers were able to be put on another flight to Reno.

It is not known at this time how much damage was done to the plane, but American Airlines does employ mechanics in Chicago. Airline spokeswoman Mary Frances Fagan told the press:

“I’m sure the captain followed whatever the protocol is based on the circumstances he or she faced,”
