American Youth Win the Obama Vote !
The amount of people showed up was more than twice what was expected said Christine Houben, working for the Democratic National Committee.
Duty at the door meant tripling the efforts to get in all those who had RSVP'ed in time before the cutoff number mandated by fire safety code. Luckily the lists that Christine gave me was alphebetised, unlike those voter lists at some voting places in FLORIDA.
At some voting places, poll workers had to crosscheck election-day voters' names with lists of people who had voted early. However, the lists of early voters were not alphabetized. As a result, some Florida voters waited in long lines while poll workers scanned the names on huge lists to make sure people weren't voting twice.
In the meantime, inside, the crowd grew jubilant as signs of an Obama landslide became increasingly solid as he gained OHIO and PENNSYLVANIA swing states.
The early numbers pointed to a huge turnout of voters and Obama support was translating into voter turnout and Obama intelligent on-the-ground work translated into electoral votes.
What was not evident on the CNN screens inside was the 21 months of work volunteers have put in across the ocean in the country we call ours. The enormous consistent hard work of the youth who channeled the electrifying energy without filtering it with cynicism reached all walks of life transcending categories of age, colour or heritage, gender, and literacy.
Putting heads together and joining hearts all across the country, the youth and those who joined the youth movement eagerly embraced the Obama Campaign tools for community organising across the country. The Obama campaign walked the walk by empowering their volunteers with training and giving them leadership roles in the campaign that spiderwebbed the nation without discrimination to age.
The youth "got it".
These are the people who spoke out and dared to confront the status quo, even in the family. A MISSOURI 18 year old got her mother to take a stand. Though politically inexpedient, her mother Senator Claire McCaskill stood out by endorsing Obama at a time when most women sided with Hillary Clinton after her daughter threatened to not talk to her if she did not become courageous and speak her truth, which is that she endorsed Obama over Hillary.
“My daughter basically said, ‘Are you going to be a cheesy politician who’s playing it safe because maybe it’s a dangerous thing for your career? Or are you going to be doing what you’ve done your whole life, which is trying to make a difference when it counts?’ ”
In the primaries, GEORGIA's Superdelegate Jimmy Carter said the fact that his children and grand-children were so enthusiastic and excited about Obama caused him to think twice.
Carter, a superdelegate, has remained officially neutral in the race but has offered strong hints that he would end up in Obama's corner. He has noted that his children, grandchildren and their spouses back the Illinois senator.
And yesterday, Arnold Schwarzenegger's daughter (video) stated she voted as a Democrat on her way out from voting for the first time.
Any resentment one may have had from Palin's comment degrading community organising - insinuating organisers are flaky and less serious compared to herself, as they do not have the actual responsibilities she has...any resentment or righteous indignation has been washed away by the love and work of countless volunteers and organisers who dared to believe this was possible and led us to this kind of solid victory that Obama strove for.
As Jarrett recalled, Obama insisted that he wanted to run a grass-roots campaign because he had seen it work as a community organizer, and he wanted to try to take the model and go national.
A victory of McCain in the USA would have indelibly marked the USA as a nation out of touch with its effect on the world, and impervious to the toll of its hunger for oil which has driven the foreign policies of almost a decade resulting in two wars and hundreds of thousands of deaths including civilian women and children.
Whilst those working for an Obama victory plugged away and donated in numbers, the McCain campaign rolled its dice in an attempt to find the winning gamble.
Whilst the Obama campaign held fast to a "no drama" attitude the McCain campaign gambled on American hysteria and paranoia and lost.
Ayers seemed curiously calm and cheerful about the way he had been made an issue in the campaign. He seemed unbothered to have been part of what he called “the Swiftboating” process of the 2008 campaign.
“It’s all guilt by association,” Ayers said. “They made me into a cartoon character—they threw me up onstage just to pummel me. I felt from the beginning that the Obama campaign had to run the Obama campaign and I have to run my life.” Ayers said that once his name became part of the campaign maelstrom he never had any contact with the Obama circle. “That’s not my world,” he said.
And this loss is America's gain as today France and other countries look with respect to the rising up of the voices of those who made this victory possible indicating that America has been taken back by its people, and its people take responsibility for the government that represents them.
Today I am inspired to see that we are marching together for a world where we use the things that earn us the right to call ourselves "civilised" - our technological prowess, our knowledge, our ability to harness energy, our intelligence, our organised systems - to create with love in our hearts a better world for all of us – for ourselves, our brothers and sisters and the plant and animal kingdoms - a real Heaven on Earth !

jaurez, I like this story. It's good stuff. Good summary, Paris has the old tradition to "vote" in Harry's New York bar. The votes are counted , result Obama. Nice personal photo.
"call ourselves "civilised" - our technological prowess, our knowledge, our ability to harness energy, our intelligence, our organised systems - to create with love in our hearts a better world for all of us – for ourselves, our brothers and sisters " What a great statement, thanks for report.

Does anyone want to know what the American youth voted for starting January 20, 2008?
Here is a sample compiled from statements made by Barack Obama and the Democrat Political Party leadership:
** Free speech will be under attack through the revival of "Fairness Doctrine" - (Sen. Charles Schumer, last week)** 401K retirement programs will become the property of the federal government and reduced to a maximum 3% growth opportunity - (Congress Democrats after Argentina pursued a similar policy)
** More babies will not make it to see the light of day than less (even those who might have seen the light but officially did not) - (voted on 3 time by then State Senator Obama in Illinois)
** Tax rates will be increased and less taxes will be actually collected - (this is what happened during the Carter Presidency ... and anytime tax rates are raised)
** The national debt will continue to increase along with the size of federal government - (do you actually think the federal government will get smaller under an Obama Presidency?)
** Less energy will be drilled, mined, transported, fused, and otherwise placed in a way our freedoms are increased and made more viable - (Democrat Party led agenda in Congress without much opposition for the last three decades)
** One's vote on the job, at work, will no longer be secret - (The Democrat Party bone thrown to unions for their support, and does anyone think this policy is really OK?)
** Less free trade and more economic isolation will become the trends - (from statements made by Barack Obama over this last year of campaigning)
** True respect and stature for the United States will suffer as our support for Israel takes a step backward - (given statements made by Barack Obama to the Hamas leadership on his wonderful international trip this last summer)
** The balance of power in Washington DC will have all power with little balance - (we all can count the seats and the attitudes - Barney Frank called for a 25% reduction of our Military forces without reason during these dangerous times)
I do not think the majority of Americans were actually voting for these items to be handled in just this way, but each of these items are a part of the power without balance that will become the 44th Presidency.
