Thousands took part in the Nashville Country Music Marathon in Tennessee today, and Amos Matui from Kenya won in the men's category, with a time of 2:13:40. As he won the 'battle of the sexes' as well, where the elite female runners get to start 15 minutes ahead of the men, he wins an extra $10,000 as he came in before the women runners. He won $10,000 just for winning the Marathon as well.

He was followed by several other male runners and then the women's winner, Tatiana Pushkareva of Russia, who finished with an unofficial time of 2:36:43.

The race started early as 30,000 runners took to the streets of Nashville for the marathon and half-marathon. The weather was sunny and warm but is expected to get really hot by mid-morning.
The runners had to register by 5:45am and the race began at 7:00am.
