And the Butcher thinks he’s got a problem.

 

We as human beings like to read articles and stories and like every curious human being out there. I myself just happened to pick up the Toronto Star and I was glancing through the paper, something I rarely ever do as I’m not a big fan of the Toronto Star as a newspaper in general. But boredom often makes someone curious to read especially if you have a newspaper in your hands. So I was flipping through the pages of the Toronto Star went I happened to stumble onto an article written by Cathal Kelly about Toronto’s latest Lotto 649 winner of 14.5 million dollars, a butcher shop manager who just happened to strike it rich as he hit the jackpot.

 

The article was intriguing at best as I read through it and heard the winner of the 14.5 million dollars tell a tale of how his life had become now that he’s won all this money. I wouldn’t want to put it so bad as to say he was whining over what has happened to him in his life after winning the 14.5 million dollars. How strangers are asking him non-stop for money, and how distant relatives were asking for money from him and how he lost friends because of it, and so on and so on. I mean the whole story just made me sick to my stomach.

 

I mean here’s a guy who is set for life, I mean recession or not, 14.5 million dollars is still quite a lot of dough and I don’t mean the baking kind here. He never will have to worry about how he’s going to pay his rent, or where his next meal will come from, or be nervous wreck that he’s going to lose his job and his family will be out on the street. I mean the guy lives in Canada where we even have universal health care so his money can’t even be depleted by health care costs.

 

Sure he’s had to endure some bad experiences, but I’d change places with him in a heart beat and I’m sure a lot of you readers out there would do the same. I mean I have tons of my own problems, but unlike him, I don’t have the means to stop working as if I don’t work I don’t eat, I don’t have a roof over my head, and our lucky winner of 14.5 million dollars doesn’t have that problem anymore, not that he did even before hand. Yes he was a hard working man before he won all that money and I can respect that. But now you’re a big time millionaire and things like what’s happening to you are bound to happen.

 

I best quote from a line from the classic movie “Airplane.” This line is when the plane is expected to crash and I still love this quote. “Shame on them, they knew what they were getting into when they bought there ticket, I say let them crash!” The same situation can be said for the butcher. If he wasn’t ready to deal with the events that followed then he shouldn’t have played the lotto. I mean if I was in his boat, I wouldn’t be whining at all. I’d donate the majority of the money, keep maybe two or three million for myself and give the rest back to the needy out there and yes folks there are people out there who are much less fortunate then me or our latest millionaire.

 

Yes our latest millionaire has been generous by handing out 5,000 dollars each to his 50 employees, but when you win 14.5 million, that’s a drop in the bucket, same with 30,000 kilograms of chicken he gave away, again a drop in the bucket.

The choice in the end is up to him, but I just feel that if you win that much money in life you should not only be grateful, but you really should go out there and get involved in helping out others. As God has blessed you with an awesome gift which means no more worries in your life. So go out there and volunteer at soup kitchens, or homeless shelters, or even donate some of your time to your local SPCA or hospital. I mean whining when you’ve suddenly become super rich, when the economy around you is on the verge of collapse and people left and right are losing their jobs, their homes, and forced onto the streets and shelters. All I can say is thank God for Lotto 649 and those out there who are lucky enough to win. Because not only will you be rich, but you can whine at the same time, while the rest of us struggle just to get by each day.
