Accused Mass Murderer Anders Behring Breivik Gave a Closed-Fist 'Right-Wing' Salute While in a Norway Court on April 16, 2012

A defiant Anders Behring Breivik appeared in court on Monday, April 16, 2012. During his first day in court, Breivik broke down in tears and gave a close-fisted right-wing salute.

Breivik has admitted to killing 77 people, but has said the attacks were necessary to protect Norway from Muslims.

He also told the court: 'I don't recognize Norwegian courts because you get your mandate from the Norwegian political parties who support multiculturalism.'

Perhaps the most striking image of the day came when Breivik gave a closed-fist salute. When entering the court room, Breivik also gave what some have described as a "right-wing" salute. After being released from handcuffs, Breivik clenched his fist and stuck his arm out in the air in a style reminiscent of a Nazi salute.
