Andhra Pradesh- Popular will forcing political system to obey.
Politics in Andhra Pradesh, India
The current political scene in Andhra Pradesh is unique and unparalleled. Here is the democracy at work led by the popular will in action that forced the political class to shun their political identities and join the peoples’ cause.
While the Union Government due to the health condition of the Telangana leader KCR and taking into the fact that all the leading political parties have no objection to the formation of separate state for Telangana, announced that the process for the formation of the separate state started and that the State Assembly first must pass a resolution calling for the formation of the separate state, the Union Government was caught on the wrong foot at the sudden and popular dissent for the creation of new state in the majority regions of Andhra Pradesh – Andhra Region and Telangana Region. While the Telangana got only 119 assembly seats the other regions combined got 175 seats. The popular discontent at the Union Government announcement was so severe that since the decision was announced, life came to a grinding halt with the students, teachers, lawyers, business class, government officials, farmers, and every section of these areas rising like one and expressing desire to continue as the united Andhra Pradesh in future too. The anger of the people can be likened to the mood of people in France during the French revolution forcing the elected leaders to the assembly, irrespective of their party affiliations were forced to resign and join the popular movement for the preservation of the integrated state and against the division of the state. It is the popular will and the peoples’ mood that forced the Members of Assembly, Political leaders, Ministers to either resign their positions or express readiness to give up their positions of power and join the movement.
Here is a unique example of the entire population of these regions forgetting their caste, communal, political affiliations and identities and joining together to fight for the cause of continuation of the State of Andhra Pradesh. It is perhaps unique that people want to remain together with their brethren in Telangana.
The Central Government is in dilemma as going back on its word for the formation of separate state for the Telangana region will be opposed by the entire population of telangana and halt the normal life. There is a sense of helplessness and the leadership of the nation is awaiting the cooling down of tempers so that the issue can once again be discussed with all the stake holders and an amicable solution to the vexed problem is arrived at.
In the meanwhile, the State is suffering irreparable loss and no longer investors are eager to opt for State as a preferred investment destination.
It is an example of people taking over the leadership and guiding the political leadership to act according to the popular will by submerging their political identity.
The State is awaiting return to the good days where people lived happily as before.

Sadly the problem is that the Political leadership of the Andhra and Rayalaseema regions are unable to present before the people the damage if any to the people of other regions, by the creation of separate Telangana state. None is ready to identify benefits for these regions if the state gets separated.
On both the counts, the leadership and the intellectual class need to present unbiased views to the public to ride over the emotional stress and help the people to judge what is best for them.
