Andrea Merkel promises air tight investigation for Kunduz Attack

German Chancellor Andrea Merkel gave a 15 minute address to the German Parliament. In in she reiterated that Germany grieves any innocent loss of life.

She promised an airtight investigation in which nothing would be smoothed over. On the same token she reaffirmed that she would not stand for forgone conclusions and judgment both inside of Germany and Internationally. This received applause from the assembly.

She continued that Germany had some 4000 troops deployed in Afghanistan and that the mission would not be abandoned. Only the Left Party called for withdrawal from Aghanistan.

According to the German Defence Minister, some 56 people had been killed. It was still not clear at this point if any civilians were involved.

General McChrystal, who visited the site was convinced that there were civilians casualties. He has introduced an alcohol ban at ISAF Headquarters. Apparently the staff couldn't brief him properly because they were too hungover. An investigation of the incident has been ordered with Canadian Major General Sullivan taking the lead.

Kanzlerin Merkel betonte: «Jeder in Afghanistan unschuldig zu Tode gekommene Mensch ist einer zuviel.» An die Adresse der Afghanen sagte sie: «Wir fühlen mit Ihnen und Ihren Angehörigen.» Zugleich wies die Kanzlerin internationale Kritik am deutschen Einsatz ungewöhnlich scharf zurück. Sie stehe dafür, dass nichts beschönigt werde, aber sie dulde auch keine Vorverurteilung. Jung rechtfertigte den vom deutschen Kommandeur angeordneten Angriff. Er habe eindeutige Hinweise gehabt, dass es sich bei den Entführern der Tanklastwagen um Taliban und andere regierungsfeindliche Gruppen gehandelt habe.

Though my grade school german is rusty, that lefty wonk Oskar Lafontaine needs a Bitch Slap upside the head, Soldiers are Evil? Well funny, Oskar Weiner Lafontaine is Mum on Taliban Evil, perhaps Oskar should make a Welcome Taliban Tour of the area and see how fast he becomes headless! If German forces say the Taliban were likely trying to Jack the Tanker, I am inclined to believe Merkel, Afghanis rushing to get FREE Fuel, certainly shows the Taliban used Free fuel in exchange for human shields. For if not the Taliban, then why the rush on the tanker, that would be construed as theft by villagers, would it not?

One thing I like about Merkel is the fact that she is not bowing down to international or opposition pressure, she is taking a wait and see attitude until the investigation is resolved. As they say there are 8 million stories in the naked city, this has only been one.
