Germany's CDU party has embraced the fine art of shameless pandering, using some cleavage-intensive photos of Chancellor Angela Merkel and candidate Vera Lengsveld. The poser depicts both women in low-cut dresses with the slogan "Wir haben mehr zu bieten", which translates to "We have more to offer".

This poster was not approved by Angela Merkel.

Mrs Lengsfeld, a former East German dissident, said she had not cleared the picture beforehand with Mrs Merkel, 55, telling rolling news channel N24: "The chancellor could never have allowed me to do this, otherwise everyone would have wanted to do it."

Opinion is divided on Vera Lengsfeld's blog, with some appreciating the humor while others denouncing it as "shameful". (German-language blog link)

CDU Christian Democratic Union) candidate Vera Lengsfeld is advertising with an attention drawing election poster in the Riding of Berlin-Kreuzfeld.  It is certain that the 57 year old will get numerous views.  Will it result in votes though?

Chancellor Angela Merkel wore the decolette to a visit to a new opera in Oslo in April 2008 and drew nationwide attention.

How aprapo! The truth of politics revealled!  This is the life that should be represented... not the false representation that we never worry, as commoners, about money or sex!

I think the Campaign poster is GREAT! Germany is very progressive and open when it comes to sexuality, so why not put it out there. It should not influence the vote and most likely it won't, but it will get people to look and being in advertising myself I understand why it was done. GREAT Campaign!!!!

I think it's shameful. Women cry about wanting to be equal, and then... when given it, what do we do? We use our sexuality to get ahead? What?! As a forefront of women in politics, they should respect their role. Whatever they want to wear, is fine, particularly on their own time... but do not make posters with the sole purpose of flaunting your body. I will give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that they did not have a direct hand in this poster. But, I would sue or fire whomever did it. At least, it's not as bad as it could be. >.< (Like the prior Alaskan governor: in short shorts next to a flag picture, etc).

I am probably more turned off by it merely because I went searching for the infamous "cleavage campaign poster". If I saw it randomly, I probably would have only looked at it funny for a second and kept going.

While I usually ground my decision for voting on other things than photos and campaign slogans, I somehow like the poster as it presents two politicians as (perfect or imperfect) human beings and not slick machines.

The poor woman is nothing BUT cleavage! She's got clevage up to her chin! The only way to cover it would be if she wore a turtleneck sweater all the time! Jeeze! Leave her be!
