Ann Pettway Turns Herself In, Confesses to Carlina White Kidnapping
Ann Pettway, accused of kidnapping Carlina White 23 years ago, has turned herself in at an FBI office. Ann Pettway, who allegedly stole Carlina White from a Harlem hospital and raised the child as her own, was caught on video at a pawn shop in Bridgeport, CT.
Ann Pettway confessed to kidnapping Carlina White.
Currently held on a North Carolina parole violation, Ann Pettway faces federal kidnapping charges.
Back in 1987, Carlina White's mother recalled a suspicious person posing as a nurse.
Reportedly, Pettway was pregnant around the time Carlina White was abducted, but had lost her baby. Authorities are trying to determine whether she replaced that baby with Carlina White.
In the five-page criminal complaint charging Pettway with kidnapping, Johnson said Pettway suffered several miscarriages before taking the newborn from the hospital by train to her home and raising her as her own in Bridgeport, Conn.
Pettway claimed that she "is sorry and knows that she has caused a lot of pain," states the complaint.
