Anna Eastman's website stand on gay rights
In a letter three years ago in the Houston Chronicle, Houston school-board candidate Anna Eastman took a stand. Recently she placed this letter on her website.
"Having healthy gay role models for all children, whatever their sexual orientation may be, is such an important component in raising compassionate, aware adults for the future."
While Ms. Eastman is surely not the only person in this race who supports the rights of gays and lesbians to live openly in peace and dignity, she deserves credit for taking a stand in this public forum.
I disagree with Ms. Eastman on most other issues. She was on the Obama Houston leadership team and I supported Hillary Clinton.
As I expected, Obama as president is pandering to the powers that be and restraining the change he promised on gay rights, health care, improving schools and economic assistance to the middle class.
Just as Eastman draws her support from charter school funders, Obama has made spreading charter schools, not neighborhood school improvement, his educational priority.
But she is right on this issue.
