Union Ministers and MPs today faced the heat over the Lokpal issue when protesters staged demonstrations outside their homes in several parts of the country heeding Anna Hazare''s call to visit the elected representatives. Team-Anna needs to talk safe to the point to keep engagement going :Prime Minister said-at Golden Jubilee Lecture of the Indian Institute of Management in Kolkata on Monday morning-that the-Nation is submerged in corruption.Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Lokpal Bill is studying the civil society's version of the bill. The Chairman of the Committee Abhishek Manu Singhvi told reporters in New Delhi that all aspects will be looked into in detail before making final recommendations to Parliament. He said that Committee is looking into the representations being sent by the general public in response to the advertisements issued by the Committee.Mr Singhvi said that the aim of the government and the civil society is the same, only the methodology needs
to be synchronized. Anna Hazare has said his campaign has not closed the door of dialogue with government, a day after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh stated it was open for discussion.
"We have not closed the door of dialogue. We have kept it open. Only through dialogue the issues can be resolved," he told his supporters at Ramlila Ground on sixth day of his fast on Sunday.
Hazare's fast demanding a strong Lokpal bill entered the sixth day on Sunday.
Hazare came to the podium at around 10 a.m. as supporters started pouring into Ramlila grounds where he launched his protest on Friday after coming out of Tihar Jail.After reaching the podium, Hazare “thanked” people for extending whole-hearted support to his campaign against corruption.“I thank all of you for coming here and supporting the movement,” the 74-year-old anti-corruption crusader said in a brief comment.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said that the government was open to "discussion and dialogue" on the issue.
Calling for a broad national consensus on the controversial issue, Singh expressed the hope that the government can enlist the cooperation of "all thinking segments of Indian public opinion to ensure that the end product is a strong and effective Lokpal which all sections of our community want".
The Prime Minister was answering questions from the media at the conclusion of the full meeting of the Planning Commission at his residence to approve the Approach Paper of the 12th Five Year Plan
Singh said the government has presented a Lokpal Bill which was the demand of all political parties when he had convened an all party conference on the issue."They said we cannot give you our viewpoint unless and until you come out with a draft. We have fulfilled that obligation".
