Anonymous Mexico Steps Up to Zetas

Anonymous Mexico is getting serious. The loose collective of hacktivists is taking on the Zetas, a ruthless Mexican drug-trafficking gang that's racking up an ever-growing body count, killing in increasingly-brutal ways.

A man wearing a Guy Fawkes mask addresses the camera in Spanish (he sounds Spanish and not Mexican), alluding to a member of Anonymous that was apparently kidnapped by the Zetas in Veracruz.

Despite reports to the contrary, Anonymous is not backing down. This is a big deal, because drug gangs work with impunity in several parts of Mexico As has been proven time and again, if the Zetas want to kill someone, they just do it, and the police are either unwilling or unable to stop them.

This, in turn, calls into question the usefulness of exposing those complicit.

Anonymous' weapon: information. The speaker threatens to expose the legit businesses, police officers, and even journalists who are supposedly working with the gang.

"You made a huge mistake by taking one of us. Release him...

"We cannot defend ourselves with a weapon … but we can do this with their cars, homes, bars, brothels and everything else in their possession.

"It won't be difficult; we all know who they are and where they are located."

Is there more to this story than we may think? Who, exactly, is this "kidnap victim"? Would Anonymous members really have the stones to go after the Zetas, who are known primarily for brutal murder?
