Seattle Listed as Number 6 in Best Cities for Bargain House-Hunters
Jim Rappond from Rain City Guide notes that Seattle was listed as number 6 in the top-ten “Best Cities for Bargain House-Hunters” in a recent Forbes article. Rappand considered this “odd, since we have only seen a modest drop in housing prices compared to the rest of the country.” In addition, Seattle was recently listed as “having one of the ‘Most lucrative Neighborhoods in America,’” so where are the bargains?
Rappond points out in his post, however, that what Forbes is referring to is “value and timing.” The article states that for the best bargain “you want to time your purchase at or near the bottom of the market.” In addition, “steer clear of areas that were hard hit by the sub-prime melt down.” This makes complete sense for the Seattle market. Forbes specifically mentions that “Seattle continues to add jobs and that the market slowdown in Seattle isn’t an indicator of a crash and offers good bargains.”
The JITMAN Debuts Indie Musicians in Seattle
Kevin LeDeux, blogging on Northwest Music Blog, writes that “KEXP DJ, icon and all around presence, John Richards” celebrates one more year with the annual JITMAN (John-in-the-Morning-at-Night) lineup on Friday, March 7th at Neumo’s. The event showcases the “best up-and-coming artists who are getting significant air play on John’s morning show as well as being host to the John Richard’s Birthday Bash.” There are no NW bands this time; instead, John has “invited some far away friends, that he has been touting for years,” announces the post.
Duke Spirit, adark, blues-tinged psych-rock from London, top the bill. “Also performing are stylish British indie-rockers The Voom Blooms… and Tulsa, the atmospheric indie-pop band from Boston.” The two later bands are making their Seattle debuts. The event will be aired on KEXP’s Nite Life (Fri nights from 9-1) “which also means that the station’s Friday Night Gem, Michele Myers will be there to DJ between sets and throughout the night.” Proceeds will benefit the station and “help keep KEXP listener powered.”
Seattle’s Jones Soda Partners with Alaska and Horizon Airlines
Biz Buzz announces a huge “mass distribution” coup for Seattle’s Jones Soda with its new partnership with two Sea Tac-based airlines, Alaska and Horizon. Instead of Coke or Pepsi being offered in the isles, the airlines instead will offer Jones’ line of carbonated sodas. “The complimentary drinks available will include Jones Pure Cane Cola, Sugar-free Cola, Lemon-Lime and Sugar-free Cream Soda beverages, the airlines said.”
Last year, Jones Soda Co. “became the official soft drink at Qwest Field when the Seahawks are playing.” Qwest is now the “only major football stadium featuring a carbonated drink other than Coke or Pepsi.” In addition to offering Jones Soda, the airlines are altering their food and snack choices “to give them a little healthier and edgier feel.” Alaska has announced a line-up of first class snacks “that contain no trans-fats or other unhealthful ingredients.” According to the post, Jones Sodas “is the only nationally distributed soda that uses cane sugar, not high-fructose corn syrup, as a sweetener.”
