The Chief of Investigation Services of the General State Department of Justice José Martínez Quiñónez was murdered today by an armed group outside his home at Parral Chihuahua.
The killers were waiting for him in a car outside his home early in the morning, waiting for him to go to work.
Where is the protection for Police Chiefs? Why are they asking for political asylum at U.S? Are we really winning the battle against drug dealers?
Police abandon posts Mexican newspapers reported that a weekend attack by gangsters on Villa Ahumada, a small town 95 miles south of the border at El Paso, was triggered by the arrest a week ago of the area's reputed crime boss. Among at least six people reportedly killed in the raid was the brother of the boss as well as three city police officers and innocent bystanders. Villa Ahumada's remaining police officers abandoned their posts. On Monday, Calderon called the crackdown he launched upon taking office nearly 18 months ago a "struggle for the future of Mexico." "No way will the Mexican government stumble in this struggle," he said.
The body of Victor Enrique Payan was found with a second, unidentified Morelos state police officer late Tuesday in the trunk of a car south of Mexico City, city police official Miguel Amelio Gomez said Wednesday. Attached to their bodies was a message warning against joining the Sinaloa drug cartel, based in the northwestern state of the same name. Authorities could not immediately explain the message, but were investigating to see if the officials had any ties to drug traffickers. Mexican police have a history of corruption, and a number of police and soldiers sent to fight the cartels have ended up joining them. Mexico's president has sent more than 24,000 soldiers nationwide to fight drug gangs. The traffickers have responded with unprecedented violence, beheading police and killing soldiers.

To answer your question, we are getting our butts kicked in the War on Drugs. But things can get better, just look at the progress Columbia has made.
