Ante Gotovina poster in Zadar

The poster depicts Ante Gotovina, who was charged with war crimes in 2001, and reads “Hero, not a criminal.” After four years in hiding, Gotovina was arrested in Tenerife in 2005 and extradited to the Hague. His case has still not gone to trial.
I post this today, after reading this BBC story: news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7164319.stm
and being reminded that the issue of war crimes in the Balkans is far from resolved.
When I was in Zadar, people I knew told me they wanted to take these posters down, but to do so would’ve been suicidal.
