The U.S. biodefense researcher suspected in the 2001 anthrax mailings that killed five people and put the country on edge following the 9/11 attacks has committed suicide. Bruce E. Ivins, 62, spent 18 years working at biodefense labs in Fort Detrick, Maryland and even co-authored several anthrax studies. According to Friday’s edition of the Los Angeles Times, Ivins had been informed that the Justice Department planned to file criminal charges against him in the anthrax case. Quoting an unidentified source, the Times claims the scientist took his life with a significant dose of a prescription Tylenol followed with a codeine chaser.
Justice Department spokesman Peter Carr and FBI Assistant Director John Miller declined to comment on the report.
Henry S. Heine, a scientist who had worked with Ivins on inhalation anthrax research at Fort Detrick, said he and others on their team have testified before a federal grand jury in Washington that has been investigating the anthrax mailings for more than a year.
Heine declined to comment on Ivins' death.
Norman Covert, a retired Fort Detrick spokesman who served with Ivins on an animal-care and protocol committee, said Ivins was "a very intent guy" at their meetings.

ACBert, I like this story. It's good stuff. sad ending. I read something today that they were closing in on this man. The concern was he developed a Anthrax shot for the Army and he may have sent anthrax spores to folks he could easley identify (members of Congress) so he could use his shot on live subjects. Scary stuff

I am sorry all, did not notice this story, and posted one on this topic too - here.
I was able to find the funeral notice, you know, about his community, church, family, etc ...
Hit the link and read it - there's something fishy going on here ...

OPINION:
I just reread the funeral bio myself. This is not the kind of guy who'd mail anthrax around to innocent people. Hatfield ( I think his name was ) managed to escape the false gov't charges and here we have the fall guy, Dr. Bruce Edwards Ivins.
May he rest in peace ...
