Anthrax in Tide: Is Tide Anthrax Mail Scare Real?
Is the Anthrax in Tide Rumor Story Real? In a word, no.
Rumors have been floating around the web that mail samples of Tide detergent have been laced with anthrax. The source of the Anthrax in Tide rumors remain unclear, but they don't seem to be stopping.
Is the Tide Anthrax Mail scare real?
No. There are no credible media reports of anthrax being found in Tide. That hasn't stopped people from sending anthrax in Tide warnings via Facebook, e-mail and text message. The Anthrax in Tide hoax has gained so much momentum that a Tide spokesperson was forced to issue a statement on the rumor.
“I work for the Tide brand, I can 100% confirm that the text message going around is not true. From time to time people do this kind of thing as a prank, unfortunately there is little we can do other than to share the fact that this is completely unfounded. What I don't understand is why someone would forward this stuff, which is obviously geared toward causing "public panic" without AT LEAST VERIFY IT IS TRUE!?! While I realize that people do forward them for a variety of reasons, but mostly out of "concern" for others, but without checking for the facts and truth before sending, you are actually hurting others. I mean if I get an Amber Alert to pass along, the 1st thing I do is go to the Amber Alert pages locally & nationally, just to make sure they are true. If they are, then I pass the message along. If not, then I send a message to whomever sent me the note and point them in the direction of the Amber Alter pages, National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, etc. Not just anyone can issue an Amber Alert, a credible law enforcement source has to do so, and if they did, it is traceable back to them, so their information should be easy to verify. Today, I received a text message regarding this "hoax" & Tide, the 1st thing I did was to do a simple google search on Tide + Anthrax + Mail + Scare to see what news stations, tide, the CDC, and the Government had to say about the matter. (Obviously it said this was a hoax) ONLY YOU CAN STOP THIS this stuff from circulating and IF YOU DON'T take the time to make sure what you SAY/SEND/PASS to other people is THE TRUTH, then YOU'RE PART OF THE PROBLEM. What problem? The grief to some Company (or more importantly) to some individual parent, small business owner, to the person who gets the message and panics or is even concerned for the millisecond upon read it. Of course, if I had found out that what I received was "true" and a "real problem" then I would have broken out my contacts, and I would have sent the information on (or called them personally if it was a real safety issue), but at the least, I would have included with my message a CREDIBLE TRACEABLE SOURCE! Because if something is reported, you should have a credible source to reference that anyone can verify. If not, then I do not take anything in general passing as real, as I am not a conspiracy theorist. I deal in real life corroborated facts, when it comes to potentially responsibly or as in most cases it turns out, irresponsibly "scaring" others. I hope that next time you receive these types of texts, emails, etc. you will take the few seconds it takes, to just verify a credible source of information and lacking that, you at least hit the "delete" button. If you have a minute, then hit the "reply" button and ask the person to send their credible source information on to you, if they wish you to pass the message along. If it is trued, and they care strongly enough about something, then they will. If not, then why should it be worth your time and effort?

I got this very text message but I didn't forward it. I checked online news and there was nothing mentioned about this and figured it must be a prank...If it was real the media would let you know before anyone else...thay always do....

I am not sure, with all the technology available, why more people don't just look this stuff up themselves before passing it on. Bunch of gullible people out there either with no resources or brains to find things out. Sheep.
