Operation Rescue, an anti-abortion group founded by Troy Newman, has indicated a wish to buy the clinic of the late Dr. George Tiller.

Dr. George Tiller was a renowned late-term abortionist who suffered multiple threats, attacks, and harassment throughout his career, including from Operation RescueOperation Rescue has made many attempts to close down Dr. Tiller's clinic in the past and may have found a way by offering to buy the clinic from George Tiller's surviving relatives.

Dr. George Tiller was shot and killed at his church on May 31 by a radical anti-abortionist, Scott Roeder.  The Tiller family has since expressed no interest in keeping the abortion clinic open stating they want the relentless harassment and threats of anti-abortion groups to end.

Speaking on behalf of Operation Rescue, Troy Newman said the group "would love to make an offer" on the late Dr. George Tiller's abortion clinic.

Newman's group bought another former abortion clinic in Wichita in 2006 for its headquarters, but he said the group needs to expand. "We need a bigger office," he said.[...]

Newman moved to Wichita in 2002 and brought his anti-abortion group from California to wage an aggressive campaign to shut down Tiller's clinic.

"We would love to see that place established as a center for life, one that nurtures and cares for babies, rather than taking their lives," Newman said of Tiller's former clinic.

Tiller's attorney dismissed Newman's expressed interest as a publicity stunt.
