The RSS leader who was convicted on the charge of anti christian right was killed by the Maoist. This incident took place in Kandhamal district in the state of orissa in Eastern India.

The situation is very tense and the possibility of another riot cannot be ignored, specially when the game of election is on.The political equation suggests that the communal issue will swing the 3-4% of vote in either direction. So the mobilization of Hindu under one umbrella can be beneficial for the BJP, and they will not let this oppurtunity go.

RSS is the ideological backbone of BJP , and the opinion of RSS decides the fate of the party in election. The death of the leader is certainly going to make the situation very tense.

A local RSS leader, who was arrested in connection with anti-Christian riots last year, was gunned down by suspected Maoists

in Orissa's communally sensitive Kandhamal district early Thursday.

About 15 armed ultras struck Rudiguma village, about 145 km from here, in the wee hours and shot dead Prabhat Panigrahi, who was staying at an RSS activist's house, police said.

A massive combing operation has been launched to nab the assailants

Additional forces have been deployed in and around the village as a precautionary measure to prevent any untoward incident.

As the Maoists had blocked the road between Kotagada and Rudiguma by felling trees, it took longer time for the police to reach the spot after clearing the road, the police said.

Panigrahi had been arrested for alleged involvement in communal riots that had rocked Kandhamal after the killing of VHP leader Laxmanananda Saraswati and four others on August 23, 2008, sources said.

He had been released from Baliguda jail on bail on March 14.

Panigrahi, who hails from nearby Bandapipili village, was in the hit list of the ultras, the sources said.

Well that might be the case, but this incident work as ignition point in this election season.

that is true..if such incident happens in Pakistan and has a religous or secterian tone to it then minorities pay a heavy price immediately after that.

In all these politically and religiously charged conflicts leading to murders it is normally the weaker party that ends up loosing out more.
Regardless of a specific place in the world. the weak are mostly on the receiving end. Then there is a dreaded incident where a firebrand activist of a stronger group is slain which results in even more carnage of the weaker people.
I am just worried for the religious minorities of the area including Low cast Hindus , Muslims , Christians etc who are in the danger of facing the wraith of  Hindu hardliners and fanatics like RSS.
I would relate it to Pakistan. shia Muslim sect makes 10% of the total Muslim population and has been always a victim of wahabi and ultra right wing Sunni organisations like sipahe sahaba, lashker a jhangvi and Taliban. they change the name but they share the ideology and move to sister terror groups. if you look at the sectarian incidents in Pakistan for few years you will see a trend like this
10 Shia killed, then in another incident 20 or 30 killed in a religious gathering this goes on and on after each incident .. Taliban/ Sipahe sahaba openly claim responsibility and vow to continue it in the future.
Then there is a news of 1 major Sunni/ Wahabi Mullah killed by "unknown" gunmen. Which results in revenge killing of more Shia’s. It normally picks up pace in terms of atrocities and severity when Islamic fanatics announce revenge and take the killings to the next level which results in the loss of ordinary people as well in addition to specific targets. Sadly the media gives the equal blame to weaker party although they are facing the tragedy on regular bases.
