Missing Five-Year-Old 'April Jones' May Have Been Abducted 'Police Continue Search'

The man being held by police searching for missing five-year-old April Jones is now being questioned about her murder, it was announced today.

The grim news was revealed by Detective Superintendent Reg Bevan at a press conference in Aberystwyth.

He said: "Mark Bridger has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of April Jones.

"He remains in custody at Aberystwyth Police Station where he continues to be questioned.

"The arrest does not detract from our efforts to find April and we remain committed to finding her.

"Her family has been informed of this development and as you would expect they continue to be supported by a family liaison officer.

STILL NO SIGN OF SNATCHED APRIL JONES, 5.

THE search for a missing five-year-old girl continued last night despite the arrest of a local man.

The man, 46, was being held on suspicion of abducting April Jones as she played with friends just 200 yards from her home in the small town of Machynlleth, mid-Wales. He was arrested as he walked along a road a short  distance away.

Police said the man was known to the family but was not a relative. It might explain why April apparently went willingly into the abductor’s vehicle.

Speaking at a press conference, Detective Superintendent Reg Bevan, from Dyfed Powys Police, read out a statement from the family: “Last night our lives were shattered when our beautiful little girl April, who was playing with friends, was taken from us.

“We are devastated and our lives have stopped. Please, please if you have our little girl let her come home to us.

“This is such a small, close-knit community and we plead with anyone who has any information, no matter how small they think it might be, to contact police.

Dyfed-Powys Police have asked anyone with information to contact a dedicated hotline on 0300 2000 333.
