Are Banks Closed on Good Friday?

It depends on where you live. In some places the banks will operate normal business hours or perhaps reduced business hours, and in other places, the banks are completely closed as Good Friday is considered a public or federal holiday.

In countries such as Canada, the United Kingdom, Chile, the Philippines, Venezuela, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malta, the Caribbean, Chile, Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Costa Rica, the banks are closed for Good Friday as it is considered a public holiday.

Hong Kong closes all of their businesses and government offices for Good Friday, and for Canada it is the same, except for Quebec where some private-sector businesses are open. Banks remain closed however.

In the United States, Good Friday is not considered a government holiday across the whole country however some states do observe it as a holiday. The banks that are controlled by the federal government however are not closed and will operate regular or slightly reduced business hours.

Is There Mail on Good Friday?

If you live in a country or place where Good Friday is observed as a holiday, then there will be no mail on Good Friday and you will have to wait for next week.

The U.S. Postal Service however does operate on Good Friday as it is regulated by the federal government and it is not recognized as a government holiday.

There may be reduced staffing at some institutions even if they are open on Good Friday so keep that in mind when you run your errands.
