January 21, 2013 is Martin Luther King Day, a federal holiday to honor the famed civil rights leader. MLK Day is the first federal holiday of the calendar year and falls on the third Monday of January.

While most people will use MLK Day 2011 to reflect on the accomplishments of Dr. King while others will watch Barack Obama's second inauguration, there are others who need to get some business done.

Are Banks Open on Martin Luther King Day 2013?

As a rule, most banks should be closed on Martin Luther King Day  2013. The US Commercial Service website indicates that Martin Luther King Day is a federal holiday, also known as a 'bank holiday,' which means that most major financial institutions are closed.
