Are the EU and Russia becoming America's biggest threat?
With America seeming to lose its prominence in the world, is it shocking to find the European Union and Russia starting to make securtiy packs? Friday, the Russian President , Medvedev, sent a security proposal to the EU and other European security agencies. It seems as if Russia and America are starting to change positions. Russia speaking with the EU and America coming closer to China brings the idea of shifting power and shifting loyalties on a global scale. The draft sent to the EU has these provisions,
Russian President, Dmitry Medvdev, has sent a security proposal to European security agencies, including NATO and the EU. The draft calls for all nations that agree, to the final writing, will follow the principle “indivisible, equal and undiminished security”. The proposal includes these few ideas of joint security. “That parties do not undertake, support or participate in actions that can jeopardize the security of another party to the treaty". The sides also agree not to allow the use of its territory with the purpose of attacking their partners. The draft suggests that every party to the agreement is entitled to consider any attack on another party in a treaty as attack against itself.“In exercising its right of self-defense under Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, it shall be entitled to render the attacked Party, subject to its consent, the necessary assistance, including the military one, until the UN Security Council has taken measures necessary to maintain international peace and security,” the draft says. It also stipulated that the treaty should be open for signature by all states and international organizations of the Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian space, including the European Union, NATO, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the Collective Security Treaty Organization and also the Commonwealth of Independent States.”

Interesting, but would NATO not also include Canada and the U.S. This almost looks like an expanded version of NATO.

I thought so too. But the part about Russia using Italy as a go between and Italy's push to have the EU move away from aiding the US is what got me.

Really interesting piece, thanks for the good read.
I'm not too surprised to see something like this happening, but I'm sure it's making many quite nervous.

Russia's just woke up to the fact that now the USA power is fading the only other power that can take the helm as china just does not want it is EU.
EU was built to compete with USA, I have always looked at UK being USA eyes within that union.
Russia wants to stop USA power meddling within its old satellites, intrusions into its gas and oil business. Now that many of its old satellites want to join EU its looking at treaties to stop such things as the Georgia incident. Its not the claws that's the worry but the cunning traits of the Bear.

I'm wondering if Russia's move is because of the threat of US defense systems in Europe. Since the US has run black ops in Eastern Europe (the detention centers, the aid to Georgia) and seeks to expand some bases, it seems as if Russia may be trying to get the ability to restart the cold war. They have had military fly overs on the west coast and naval sightings on the east coast. Now they want to get the largest naval vessel on the water. Sounds like they may have the idea of military expansion within the EU, an idea not to far fetched considering the EU's ideas of American military actions.
