Caracas, Venezuela, 6 March, 2008. President of Argentina, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, arrived in Caracas last night. Her visit to Venezuela was planned a fornight ago but coincided with the unexpected Americas crisis. Today, President Fernandez will sign few cooperation treaties with Venezuela on oil, food security and manufacturing.
Argentinean President already met with her Ecuadorian counterpart Rafael Correa, early this morning. Argentina has strongly condemned the Colombian invasion of Ecuadorian territory. Argentinean Senate quickly supported her stand on the regional crisis. Later today, President Fernandez will also meet with Mrs Yolanda Pulecio, mother of FARC hostage Ingrid Betancourt,and Colombian Senator Piedad Cordoba. During her visit, Caracas will join the world wide manifestation against Colombian paramilitarism and for a Humanitarian deal.
After visiting Caracas, President Cristina Fernandez is expected to travel this afternoon to Haiti and Dominican Republic to attend the Summit of the Rio Group.
