Argentinean President Cristina Kirchner visits Venezuela (updated II)

Caracas, Venezuela, 6 March, 2008. President of Argentina, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, arrived in Caracas last night.  Her visit to Venezuela was planned a fornight ago but coincided with the unexpected Americas crisis. Today, President Fernandez will sign few cooperation treaties with Venezuela on oil, food security and manufacturing.

Argentinean President already met with her Ecuadorian counterpart Rafael Correa, early this morning. Argentina has strongly condemned the Colombian invasion of Ecuadorian territory. Argentinean Senate quickly supported her stand on the regional crisis. Later today, President Fernandez will also meet with Mrs Yolanda Pulecio, mother of FARC hostage Ingrid Betancourt,and Colombian Senator Piedad Cordoba. During her visit, Caracas will join the world wide manifestation against Colombian paramilitarism and for a Humanitarian deal.

After visiting Caracas, President Cristina Fernandez is expected to travel this afternoon to Haiti and Dominican Republic to attend the Summit of the Rio Group.

UPDATES: According to La Nación, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner has met with Yalando Pulecio and Colombian Senator Piedad Cordoba in Caracas. President Fernandez will be meeting Chavez and probably Rafael Correa too. There is unconfirmed news Argentinean President might play a mediator role in the current crisis in the Americas. After paying tribute to Venezuelan father of the Nation, Simón Bolivar, Presdent Fernandez signed 13 cooperation treaties. Buenos Aires and Caracas agreed on the creation of a joint oil company to exploit Venezuelan reerves of heavy crude oil in the Orinoco basin. Commenting on the recent crisis in the region, Argentinean President asked fellow nations to obey International Law, accept multinational competence and avoid unilateral use of force.  The visit of President Crisitina Fernandez de Krishner has been greeted with shows of popular affection in Venezuela.
