Arizona shooting update: Westboro Baptist Church thanks God for shooter
As the nation mourns the senseless, tragic loss of six dead and continues to pray for the recovery of 14 wounded, there are some who are praising God for the alleged shooter Jared Lee Loughner’s actions. The Westboro Baptist Church (widely known for their “God Hates Fags” shtick and frequent protests of funerals, concerts and religious organizations) has announced they will picket the funerals of those killed during the deadly rampage. This includes the funeral of 9-year-old Christina Green.
On a message posted on the Westboro Baptist Church website the group states, “Thank God for the Shooter- 6 Dead!
WBC will picket their funerals!” The group continues to say disparaging comments about little Christina Green that this reporter will not repeat. The Westboro Baptist Church has been called a hate group by many watchdog organizations. On September 24, 2009 a federal court ruled in favor of the Topeka, Kansas church’s right to picket under the First Amendment. Should the Westboro Baptist Church picket the funerals of the six, it is possible another lawsuit may subsequently be filed. Westboro Baptist Church has already made statements on their website that would be deemed “worthy of inflicting emotional pain” on the family members of those who’ve lost their loved ones; specifically the family of Christina Green.
