Corpses Of 8 Babies Found in French Village, A Couple Arrested

Details are still sparse but a news reports from France say a couple has been detained in connection with the discovery of 8 corpses in Villers-au-Tarte, outside Calais in Northern France.

Residents quoted by AFP said the new owners of a house in the village had called in the police after finding the remains of infants in the garden of their home.

Inquiries led to another house in the village where the bodies of more babies were found, the residents added.

A couple said to be in their mid-40s have been arrested.

The prosecutors's office in the nearby city of Douai was due to begin a legal inquiry on Thursday which was expected to lead to the couple being charged, a judicial source said.
