CHEKHOV, Russia—For the first time in the modern history of Russia, arson left a Kingdom Hall, or house of worship used by Jehovah’s Witnesses, in charred ruins. This comes at a time when official opposition to religious freedom has reached the highest levels since the establishment of the Russian Federation.
The fire started at about 3:45 in the morning of July 11, 2008, in the town of Chekhov, some 40 miles south of Moscow. Vladimir Berezhnoy, a member of the congregation that meets in the building, was on-site as a volunteer caring for overnight property security, when he heard what sounded like an explosion and then smelled smoke. Authorities would later find remnants of the containers and evidence confirming arson as the cause of the fire.
At the time, Berezhnoy ran out into the street and could see one corner of the building ablaze, with another fire at the back of the building. The foundation and nearby grass burned because of a flammable liquid that soaked the area. Berezhnoy immediately tried to extinguish the fire and called the fire station a few miles away (about 4 km). Meanwhile several neighbors and some fellow believers quickly came to his assistance. At 4:00 a.m. two police officers arrived at the scene but reportedly stood by and watched as three members of the congregation tried to salvage some of the contents of the building.
Fire department records show that Berezhnoy’s call for help was received at 3:55 a.m. and that ten minutes later firefighters were at the scene. Eyewitness accounts differ. Those present say they had already fought the fire themselves using extinguishers and at least 15 buckets of water. They said they moved a vehicle that was parked beside the hall and rescued what items they could from inside the hall. Photographs taken on mobile telephones show the firemen arriving after 4:27 a.m. By that time the building was engulfed in flames.
Meanwhile, bystanders saw the firefighters sitting for 20 minutes on a neighboring street and said the firemen only reacted after a neighbor who saw what was happening pleaded with them to go to the scene of the fire. At that point two fire trucks arrived at the scene. A crew of six from one of them began extinguishing the fire while the four in the other truck sat by. The equipment they brought had three connections for hoses, but only one hose was used. The firemen left the scene before the fire was completely extinguished, leaving congregation members and a neighbor to douse the flames that continued to burn in the ceiling.
Local police have refused to open an investigation, even after two weeks, claiming that they had not received a report from the fire investigator.

An investigation should have taken place by now, is it possible that the police are investigating and not letting anyone know to gather more incriminatory evidence against this criminals? LET'S HOPE THAT'S THE CASE!
I will Keep you in my prayers.
Jesus suffer in the hands of evil doers and the Bible foretold that his fallowers would suffer.
John 15:18-20 If the world hates YOU, YOU know that it has hated me before it hated YOU. 19 If YOU were part of the world, the world would be fond of what is its own. Now because YOU are no part of the world, but I have chosen YOU out of the world, on this account the world hates YOU. 20 Bear in mind the word I said to YOU, A slave is not greater than his master. If they have persecuted me, they will persecute YOU also; if they have observed my word, they will observe YOURS also.
1Peter 4: 4, 5, 8, 12, 13 Because YOU do not continue running with them in this course to the same low sink of debauchery, they are puzzled and go on speaking abusively of YOU. 5 But these people will render an account to the one ready to judge those living and those dead.
8 Above all things, have intense love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins.
12 Beloved ones, do not be puzzled at the burning among YOU, which is happening to YOU for a trial, as though a strange thing were befalling YOU. 13 On the contrary, go on rejoicing forasmuch as YOU are sharers in the sufferings of the Christ, that YOU may rejoice and be overjoyed also during the revelation of his glory.

We are living in the last days of this dying system. Satan's world is falling in upon itself. Satan, "the god of this system of things" also know that his time as well as those who directly or indirectly support him) is short. He's now making his last effort in attacking Christ brother left on earth before Jehovah / Christ acts. You brothers have JEHOVAH'S support and blessings. Remember also 2Co 4:4; 1Pe 5:8,9
2Co - "among whom the god of this system of things has blinded the minds of the unbelivers, that the illumination of the glorious good news about the Christ might not shine through".
1Pe - "Keep your senses, be watchful, your adversary, the Devil, walks about like a roaring lion, seeking to devour [someone]. But take your stand against him, solid in the faith, knowing that the same things in the way of suffering are being accomplished in the entire association of your brothers in the world".

To all who have been affected by this tragedy, please don't become down hearted. A building that is no longer standing cannot take us away from our service to Jehovah. Jesus said 'if they have persecuted my, they will persecute you also', so let this form of persecution keep us focused on the times ahead. Always remember things are going to get worse for us, as Jehovah's servants, before they get better. The brotherhood will build that building back in no time, so alloe this brief moment of distress to take place, for it will only be for a short period of time. Sending you Phila!!!!!

I have to agree with all the other comments, we are living in the last days and Satan is working around the clock to harm all of Jehovah's people. You are in my prayers.

Taking down our building do not destroy our goal. Burning down our building do not burn down our strong desire in our heart. Yes our desire to get the preaching work done doesn't require us to have a building for our brotherhood can not be broken. This is not the first time Satan has burned down Kingdom Halls and I am sure it won't be the last. I am equally sure that as Isaiah 41:9-13 strongly reminds us- that Jehovah is holding us tight and none of his faithful servants will be lost. Hang in there my brothers and sisters, for our Lord Jesus Christ, will see you through.
