A lead member of the NY based musical troupe Alvin Ailey has been forced to dance at the Israeli Aiport after intense questioning. Abdur-Rahim Jackson a leading member of the group was questioned at the airport and he is deeply troubled with this shabby treatment.  As part of its 50th anniversary international tour the Alvin Ailey troupe is visiting Israel and it had a sold out performances.

Israeli airport security officers made an African American member of the New York-based Alvin Ailey dance troupe perform steps for them before letting him enter the country, the group said on Tuesday.

The group said airport officials had provided no explanation about the treatment of Abdur-Rahim Jackson, who has a Muslim father but is engaged to a fellow dancer who is Jewish with a large family in Israel.

Jackson was pulled aside from the rest of the troupe on arrival at Israel's Ben Gurion airport and taken to a room where he was questioned by the security officers, said a spokesman for the group.

"They asked him who he was and what he does and also about his name. He showed them the group's programme with his picture and said he was a dancer," the spokesman said.

"The officers then told him, 'If you are a dancer, then dance', so he showed them some dance moves."

Some times the "Terrorists Watch list" causes  unnecessary detention of innocent people due to the exact match of there full name
it happens daily in airports all over the u.s!

If a name exactly like yours is on the list and  you are  not a terrorist!
You Better Know How to Dance

Sanjay Jha, I like this story. It's good stuff.

Unfortunately this is an old story. This time it happened to an American. In 2004 it was captured on video. Some felt in 2004 that the Soldiers should be put on trail "not for abusing Arabs but for disgracing the Holocaust".

This kind of humiliation is an everyday occurrence. It is a waste product of the 41 year Occupation. The Occupation dehumanizes everyone.

Israel shocked by image of soldiers forcing violinist to play at roadblock

Nov 2004

Of all the revelations that have rocked the Israeli army over the past week, perhaps none disturbed the public so much as the video footage of soldiers forcing a Palestinian man to play his violin.

But after the incident was videotaped by Jewish women peace activists, it prompted revulsion among Israelis not normally perturbed about the treatment of Arabs.

The rightwing Army Radio commentator Uri Orbach found the incident disturbingly reminiscent of Jewish musicians forced to provide background music to mass murder. "What about Majdanek?" he asked, referring to the Nazi extermination camp.

Yoram Kaniuk, author of a book about a Jewish violinist forced to play for a concentration camp commander, wrote in Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper that the soldiers responsible should be put on trial "not for abusing Arabs but for disgracing the Holocaust".

Sanjay Jha, I like this story. It's good stuff.  I saw a TV article awhile back about the Israelis not welcoming fellow Jews from Africa where they were being persecuted for their religion.  I understand that the security people must be vigilant but this seems over the top.
