Amanda Rodriguez Gatti, the wife of late boxer Arturo Gatti, says she will sue Brazilian authorities for arresting her in connection with her husband's death in July of this year. Rodriguez was accused of strangling Gatti with a purse strap while he was asleep. Gatti's death was later ruled a suicide. Rodriguez Gatti was taken into custody after Arturo Gatti's death, and authorities in Pernambuco, Brazil, were planning to press formal charges against Rodriguez.

When the Brazilian police concluded Arturo Gatti committed suicide, Rodriguez was released by the decision of the court. The 23-year-old Rodriguez now plans to sue Brazilian authorities for wrongfully arresting her. Rodriguez had to spend 18 days in jail.

Amanda Rodrigues, 23, "has decided to sue Pernambuco for her 18-day imprisonment and for wrongfully accusing her of murder," Celio Avelino said by telephone.

Avelino said he and his client will file the "necessary papers" in about 20 days. He declined to provide further details.
