Aurora, CO, USA HD 42 Democrats are hosting their own version of a Presidential Inaugural Celebration for Arapahoe County Democrats at the Cinema Grill on the Tuesday, January 20 from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm.
“This inauguration is a momentous occasion for the country,” says Representative
Karen Middleton (HD 42). “Even though most of us can’t afford to go to Washington, D.C. it doesn’t mean that we don’t want to have the opportunity to unite in celebration.” Middleton is joined in co-hosting the event by SenatorMorgan Carroll (SD 29) and Arapahoe County Commissioner Frank Weddig. “HD 42 is proud to host such a symbolic celebration for our constituents and Arapahoe County," adds Middleton.
In Washington there will be dozens of balls and galas. However, there are only ten "official balls” meaning the ones where
Barack Obama, Joe Biden and their wives are guaranteed to show up. To attend one of these “official balls” you have to be invited.
“Our celebration is open to everyone,” says Arapahoe County Commissioner
Frank Weddig, “however, RSVP’s are required as space is limited. We don’t think we’ll have a problem in assembling a very enthusiastic group of folks who just want to commemorate this event with others. And, in respect to who will show up ... you never know!”
RSVP’s are being taken by
Karen Middleton at karen@karenmiddleton.com and need to include the number and name of guests. The event costs $5.00 in advance or $8.00 at the door to attend. Advance payment options include writing a check payable to: Arapahoe County Democrats, 15445 East Iliff Avenue, Unit C, Aurora, CO 80014 (note "1/20 at Cinema Grill" on check) or pay online at www.arapahoedems.org (please indicate online payment in your RSVP).
“We are telling folks to dress casually and plan on drinks and food on their own,” says Senator
Morgan Carroll (SD 29). “This is a serious time for our country and we think everyone is in need of a little break from the overwhelming gloom and doom. So the agenda primarily includes having a good time with friends and allies while watching the inauguration on Cinema Grill's big screen. ”
Arapahoe County Democrats in Colorado have quite a bit more to celebrate in addition to the election of President-elect Obama. 2008 was a historic year for Arapahoe County Democrats as registration numbers exceeded 120,000. Positive election results included big wins by President-elect
Barack Obama, Senator-elect
Mark Udall, Congress members
Diana DeGette and
Ed Perlmutter. Additionally, 8 out the 11 House and 3 out of 5 elected seats are now held by Democrats.
