New data has revealed the number of people sleeping rough in England has risen by 23 per cent in a year.
The figures were gathered by local authorities in a single night last autumn, and compared with an assessment 12 months earlier.
The statistics show that on one night in 2011 there were 2,181 rough sleepers in England, up 413 from 1,768 on the same night the previous year.
London and the South East had the highest number of rough sleepers with more than 400 in each region. More than half of London's rough sleepers come from overseas, with a notable growth in people from Central and Eastern Europe. The North East had the fewest rough sleepers with 32.

Unsustainable social programs cause homelessness by bringing about the necessity of paying off the debt accrued by the peoples demands on governments to provide for them. The legacy issues of unsustainable pensions and health care services for instance have caused not only huge government debt but, also huge legacy debt among many manufacturers. The grey tsunami of the exiting baby boomers from the work force has to be balanced with a readjustment of pension payouts and social services. If corporations and governments are going to be able to sustain the social programs for the following generations with out job loss or creating any drastic reductions in their standard of living by placing undo costs on them in support of these legacy debts. It means everyone is going to have to accept a little less and pay a little more. That includes the 99%.

The Condem government are creating a workforce of slave labour. Unemployment is going through the roof an prices are going sky high. The poor, disabled, pensioners, working class (what's left of them) and even the middle class are being attacked by this government while money is being wasted here and abroad adding to the national debt. MPs are on very good wages claiming as much expenses as they can get away with while still complaining they don't get enough and fat cats are paid bonuses for failure with none of them knowing what it's like to live in our world. We are not really in this together are we? No, I didn't think so.

We have never been in this together which is why the divisive politics of the multi-party system exists. Divide and conquer. Social unity is not the goal of anyone who has aligned themselves ideologically with a political party; partisanship is exceptionalism in it's base form.

Think about it. maybe we should round up the homeless to do shifts in P***dland or T**co so at least they can keep warm (well they might need to do two shifts in order to stay warm throughout). They can even spend their dole wages in store $$ ! All for Cameron capitalism.
