Austin Plane Crash: Joseph Andrew Stack Hits Echelon Building

A small plane crashed into the Echelon Building, an office building in Austin, TX this morning. The single-engine plane hit the Echelon Building on Research Boulevard. Video of the crash site is available via traffic camera. According to a federal official, the crash was intentional, and the pilot, Joseph Andrew Stack, had left a manifesto, set fire to his own house before stealing a Piper Cherokee PA-28 single-engine plane from Georgetown Municipal Airport and crashing it into the Echelon Building.

So far, two people are reported injured, and one is unaccounted for At first, officials said that there no indication that the Austin plane crash was anything other than an aviation accident, but witnesses described the plane as flying at full throttle towards the office building. Later, the burned house was found to have belonged to Joseph Stack,

The Echelon Building is home to IRS civil enforcement and criminal investigations offices. The FBI was on the scene, because they have an office in the same complex.

A spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security said there is no reason to believe that terrorism is involved.

Initial reports were that the Austin field office of the San Antonio FBI were in the building, but it was later learned that the FBI offices are in a nearby building.

It was a real plane. He owned it. He also burned his house down in Georgetown before flying out to 183. I work for the IRS in Austin, and my prays and thoughts go out to all of my fellow co-workers and their families. My name is Ashley, I work for the IRS and I'm proud of it.
