Australia Not To Sell Uranium To India
Canberra:June 23
Australian Foreign Minister Mr. Stephen Smith announced that it will not sell Uranium to India untill India signs the NPT.
The Indian Foreign Minister met his counterpart at Canberra where the Mr.Stephen Smith disclosed the stand of the Australian Govt.
Stephen Smith Stated that "Everybody knows the stand of Australian Labour party on uranium Issue.We do not sell uranium to those countries which have not signed NPT."
Pranab Mukherjee the Indian Foreign Minister said that "To speak on this issue would be like waiting for train at a platform which has not even begun its journey."He further stated that talks were currently on on nuclear deal issue with United States and to say anything at this juncture would be far fetched.He also said that he was here not to talk on nuclear issue.
Both Foreign Ministers reiterated the fact that inspite of differences on the nuclear issue the relationship between two countries were cordial and longlasting.
According to Previous president of Australia John Howard selling Uranium to India for non militay purpose would mean Income Generation for Australia and cleaner source of energy for India which will help in reducing emmision of Greenhouse gases.
Both countries also signed on the repatriation Treaty.
Indian Foreign minister is on Australian tour at the moment.
