A decaying and badly decomposed body was found in the Des Plaines River in Illinois May 20, 2009, leading to speculation that it may be the body of either Lisa Stebic or Stacy Peterson.

Des Plaines River is in Will County, Illinois, which is where both Lisa Stebic and Stacy Peterson lived. The cases of these two missing women have gained international attention and the bodies of these women have never been found which has made it difficult for police to proceed with charges.

Stacy Peterson's husband Drew Peterson is currently on trial for the murder of his second wife, Kathleen Savio and it is widely believed that he also killed Stacy.  Drew Peterson has asserted a not guilty plea in the Kathleen Savio trial and maintains that Stacy Peterson left him in 2007 for another man.

Lisa Stebic's husband, Craig Stebic, remains a "person of interest" in her 2007 disappearance but maintains his innocence in that case.  The Stebic's have two children, Alexis, 14, and Zachary, 12, have been living with Craig Stebic since Lisa went missing in 2007.

The area is in Will County, home to two missing women whose disappearances have drawn national media attention.

The body was found Wednesday by a cleaning crew. It was unclear if it was a woman's, and an autopsy was scheduled for Thursday.

Will County was home to Stacy Peterson and Lisa Stebic. Peterson's husband, Drew Peterson, has pleaded not guilty to murdering his third wife, Kathleen Savio. He claims Stacy Peterson left him for another man in October 2007.

An autopsy is underway to determine the identity of the body found in Des Plaines River, Illinios and the families of Lisa Stebic and Stacy Peterson are anxiously awaiting the results.  Authorities have given the families very little to go on and have not yet confirmed that the body that was discovered May 20, 2009 is that of a woman.

"The sex of the body has not been determined," Illinois Police Master Sergeant Tom Burek told RadarOnline.com. "We are not commenting on the condition of the body."
