The season is open; Obama is in the circle ready to fight for reelection. The battle lines have been clarified by the 2011 budget skirmish that brought government to the brink of a shutdown. All of those people who departed Friday with their office plants will have to bring them back Monday. It is back to work everyone.

The future is this:

1.      Stop the wars – complete the drawdown’s and whack wasteful and excessive defense programs

2.      Modify the rules on retirement and Medicare and Medicaid qualifications – raise the age and insert means testing

3.      Revisit affordable healthcare for all Americans – shift to private sector-led and government regulated to achieve meaningful reductions in excessive expense

4.      Emphasize tax and regulatory incentives for manufacturing in America

5.      Emphasize accelerating a shift to green and renewable energy sources with emphasis on wind, solar, and then clean extraction of fossil fuels including natural gas

6.      Overhaul American foreign policy regarding peace-building and criteria for war deployment – raise the bar

7.      Aggressively engage the Chinese in economic development with emphasis on changing behavior a contract at a time

8.      Prepare for the resettlement of Japanese people

9.      Overhaul immigration policy and enforce border security

10.  Make Optimizing Return on National Resources a recurring theme

Republicans and Democrats on Capitol Hill have reached an agreement to fund the federal government for the next five months, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's office announced Friday night. The deal will include $39 billion in spending cuts and will drop language related to Planned Parenthood. Lawmakers were still working to approve a short-term stopgap funding bill before midnight to give them time to craft the longer-term legislation.

----------------------------------------

The House and Senate both approved a stopgap spending bill that will continue federal funding for the next six days, averting a government shutdown. The chambers acted swiftly on the continuing resolution after agreeing late Friday night to a budget plan for the next five months. Lawmakers are scheduled to vote on that measure next week.
