NP Rank:
Back to Work Legislation For Ottawa's Striking Bus Drivers
Canada's Labour Minister Rona Ambrose announced today that she is prepared to legislate Ottawa's bus drivers back to work.
The driver's have been on strike since the middle of December and the two sides don't appear close to an agreement. As the city is in the midst of yet another snow storm, the nighmare for commuters has become steadily worse with stories of people losing jobs or quitting school as a result of a lack of public transportation.
At this point, it is not known whether the opposition Liberals will support the legislation. The New Democratic Party has said that they will oppose it.
According to a source, the Prime Minister's Office wants to see the strike ended prior to the visit of President Barack Obama to Ottawa on February 19.
