Baja California Sur Hopes To Stay a Safe State
Living in La Paz which means peace is still safe, except for one or two isolated cases of drug related violence. I still feel safe walking by the ocean at night.
Cabo San Lucas represents the state's most conflicting zone and there has been violence against tourists on the other hand, it offers extremely exclusive, secluded and well protected resorts. We have Todos Santos and Pescadero which are beautiful and still peaceful. I hope the plan works.
Many aren't aware that Mexico's Baja California peninsula consists of two states: Baja California and Baja California Sur.
Now the latter, prompted by drug-related violence and other crimes occurring in the former, has enacted a three-point "shield" program it hopes will keep BCS safe and discourage criminals.
It's called "Baja California Sur, Estado Seguro," and it's essentially a stepped-up checkpoint effort that might, at times, represent a lengthy inconvenience for tourists.
