Balloon Boy's Dad Wastes Everyone's Time

There was supposed to be a big announcement by the balloon boy's dad Richard Heene this morning.

He came out of his Colorado house earlier this morning to say that he had a 'big announcement' for everyone and would be back later.

Well he came back out of his house later with his big announcement - a suggestion box.

Yes that's right, he had a small cardboard box and asked the media to place their questions / suggestions in the box so that he can get to them later.

The box currently has a lot of questions in it; there will be a press conference at 6:30pm EST that will hopefully answer some of them.

Thanks Richard Heene for your big announcement.

Sheriff reopening investigation of balloon boy

It looks as though the official “we believe the parents” may no longer be operative, according to this report from NBC. What did it for the sheriff? Could it be the video showing that the parents were there when the balloon got launched? The apparent stumble of the young boy in talking about “the show”? The fact that the family has been pushing for a reality TV series? The fact that the family called the media before 911? It’s hard to imagine that anyone would have been foolish enough to deliberately stage a hoax that would have forced them to hide their son for, oh, a few years — but that presumes that a hoaxer is intelligent enough to think through all of the consequences.

By the way, the family no longer wants to do media interviews. Surprised?

Thanks for this update Amy, I like how children have the innate ability to not want to lie under these public circumstances and watching the father choke for words while live on camera when his son blurted out a contradictory truthful remark on how he was coached to be in a news story was priceless.

The family history of them trying to gain public fame through reality shows I believe brings to light two important issues:  firstly the desperation in these hard economic times for families to have to consider exploiting their own children for money but also the new found parental need to be rich and famous from get-rich-quick reality tv shows through their kids..

..however there is always an underlined price for fame as I am certain this family will soon come to realize.

Richard Heene is "a lunatic" Who in their right mind, would hide their 5 year old child in an attic space so small and out of the way in the garage, with no access seen by LE (who climbed thru crawl spaces, climbed thru the attic proper, went thru their closets, boxes and vehicles.) The man is a danger to his children and others around them.

There is a clip of his "new wife" Sheree Silver, saying he told her he takes the children storm chasing because he doesn't want them to miss something. Her reply, do they really need to see you die in front of them?  He can't answer that. Why? His children are not what is important to him.

Her first thought when she heard about Falcon; "Oh Richard, what have you done?"

Her last thought, Falcon hid because he was supposed to be in the saucer. He was afraid of daddy's temper. Or this is the hoax the public thought it was.

His son, 6 year old Falcon is so stumped by the question why did you hide? Not because he didn't have an answer, because he couldn't understand why the media  didn't know the answer... For the show! What else could it be?

Falcon threw up twice during the interview.

CPS are you watching????

Jim Alderder Sheriff Larimer County,  CO stood by the family saying they had been with the family all day. Everyone who "watched, observed and studied the behavior of the family" are trained to do this, Mr and Mrs JQ Public doesn't have the skills these trained professionals have. Nor do they have all the evidence LE collected. Asking the public not to jump to conclusions.

If this is the fraud it appears to be, I hope that Henne is given a bill for all the time and services he wasted while using the officials to put his mug on the news.

Actually, if it was a hoax, he shouldn't be charged. It was a good show. It pulled the nation together for a couple of hours. It had drama and a happy ending. It took our minds off our financial worries and other problems for awhile. Heck, it reminded us to be so very thankful for the health and well-being of our own loved ones. No, he shouldn't be charged--maybe even the family should be paid so that he can continue the scientific research. Or maybe there could be a compromise--he writes a book about "doing science experiments together as a family" and donates half the proceeds to a good cause.

I thought it was a hoax too - until I listened to the 911 tape. That sounded totally real; an actor would be hard pressed to perform that convincingly. The parents were out of breath, their voices were unregulated and pitchy, and they were having trouble comprehending the questions and giving direct answers because their thoughts were scattered or ungrounded, which happens when there is an emergency situation. Also, I noticed that when the father realized the potential ramifications of the balloon nearing the airport, he had a sudden reaction like he was going to be sick. I really don't think these people have acting skills on a level that even Academy Award winning thespians might be unable to match.

Actually, if it is a hoax- he should be charged and fined for the very costly resources used, along with all the man hours wasted that could have been spent dealing with real life dangers.

His stupidity also put countless others in harms way. This was not some silly little childhood prank we're talking about. This is an adult male with three young children. Wow!-what a fine example he's showing  his children.

He is just an immature media seeker who doesn't have the common sense to realize what an idiotic act, hoax, or stunt- that he pulled. I don't think much of his wife either! I see that her children can't go to her for protection or guidance.

Well, he's sure getting the attention now- but I wouldn't say that most of the attention is positive! LOL
