NP Rank:
Baluch 'king' is zero, but his follower a hero: web poll
The Baluch people who use internet are still guessing who was the person responsible for a web fraud committed against them more than two years ago, though elders in the community have identified a Canada-based computer genius for the farce.
The fraud consisted of projecting a little known blood technician, who came under F.B.I. investigations for using the Dr. title without the requisite U.S. qualifications, as the most popular leader of the Baluch diaspora.
"If this poll is genuine then Hitler was Jew," well-known Baluch intellectual Usman Qazi commented on Facebook, though the winner insisted it was a true poll.
The web poll was conducted by the now-defunct Canadian-based Mirdora.com.
The question asked in the poll was "If we held national elections, who would you select as your leader?"
One of the most highly respected Baluch nationalist leaders, Nawab Khair Bakhsh Marri, who is credited for being the founder of the Baluch liberation ideology since the military occupation of Baluchistan on March 27, 1948, is shown to have got only 7.1 percent of votes. Likewise, another staunch Pakistan opponent Sardar Ataullah Mengal got only 7.1 percent votes.
Nawab Marri's son, Mir Balaach Marri, got 14.3 percent votes in the farcical web survey. Mir Balaach Marri was assassinated on Nov. 21, 2007. Another martyr, Ghulam Mohammed Baloch was shown with barely 1.4 percent votes.
Former chief minister of Baluchistan, Sardar Akhtar Mengal -- also called Baluch Nelson Mandela --, who is a son of Sardar Ataullah Mengal got 4.3 percent votes.
An internationally well-known Baloch senator, Sanaullah Baloch, is shown to have bagged 8.6 percent votes.
The Cardiff-based Khan of Kalat Suleman Daud got zero votes. Some sections of the Baluch consider Daud as the De Jure Ruler of Baluchistan, whose ancestors had ruled over the Baluch tribal confederacy for 35 generations as their chief.
Daud insists that he must be addressed as "His Highness" -- a title he carries in his passport -- but Baluch nationalists accuse his grandfather Mir Ahmedyar Khan of cowardice and say he forfeited the right to that honorific royal title by signing the accession documents with Pakistan on March 27, 1948 -- even if that was done at the point of Pakistani soldier guns -- in stead of sacrificing his life for Baluchistan.
Intriguingly, a follower of the Khan of Kalat based in Jacksonville, Fla., Dr. Wahid Baloch a.k.a Dostaen Baloch of Panjgur stunningly emerged as the winner of the international popularity contest with 51.4 percent of the total votes.
Dr. Wahid Baloch came under an investigation of the Federal Bureau of Investigations in winter 2008. The Feds were concerned Dr. Baloch might be performing surgeries without the requisite degree, but were informed by reliable sources this was not the case.
The five-week polling that began on July 26 and ended August 31, 2007 saw as many 70 Baluch people all over the world cast their votes.
Dr. Baloch insisted the poll was true:
"The web poll which was ran by Mirdora.com, was not a fake one but a true poll that people voted for. It was a true reflection of our good work, honesty and sincerity that we are doing for our downtrodden people, even though we didn't ask anybody to put our name on the ballot ....."
He now has a volte-face and in a communication posted on Baluch yahoogroup.com after the publication of this story, Dr. Baloch indulged in personal attacks and distanced himself from the posting.
He said, "I'm not even equals to the dust of His Highness's feet let alone to run against him on the same ballot." However, Baluch tribesmen, who are fiercely independent minded and do not believe in any king, call those with such a servile mindset a maulid or lowly.
Names of two Baluch national heroes, Mir Hyrbyair Marri and Dr. Allah Nazar Baloch, were omitted in the survey. However, a third national hero Nawab Brahumdagh Bugti, political heir to slain Baluch statesman Nawab Akbar Bugti is shown with only 5.7 percent votes.
Baluch leaders like Dr. Hayee Baloch, Mir Hasil Bizenjo, Dr. Malik Baloch, Kachkol Ali, Habib Jalib, Mehran Baluch, and Noordin Mengal, among many others, were totally left out of the web poll.
Likewise, a well-known activist from Seistan-o-Baluchistan, now based in Stockholm, Nasir Boladai got zero votes.
The person that organized the poll was also likely behind the shadowy Government of Balochistan in exile that sprung up mysteriously a year earlier in spring 2006.
At least two Gulf-based old wise men in the Baloch diaspora, Jumma Khan and Saeed Ameeri, saw through the GOB-in-exile fraud and had cautioned the Baloch nation accordingly.
Jumma Khan wrote in a yahoogroups.com posting:
"The question is whether the fighting Baloch forces are consulted or not? If yes. It would be
wonderful. And if not. Then who were those who have taken the initiativeof establishing GOB and what are the future plans? It is therefore requested that please do not take this great problem with sheer excitment but do take it seriously by consulting all active elements of Baloch nation inside and outside Balochistan."
According to Saeed Ameeri, the bogus GOB-in-exile was a brainchild of Canada-based computer genuis Malik Durrazai.
The spooky GOB-in-exile, which claimed its main office was in Jerusalem, was merely a blog run from Canada and a cruel joke in the face of the national aspirations of the Baluch people. But just like the defense of the web poll, Dr. Wahid Baloch says it was a genuine set-up.
The www.bso-na.org, a web site run by Dostaen Baloch, still lists Durrazai's GOB in Exile at the top of news links. Under the headline "Balochistan: Top Most Articles", an interview of the self-styled founder of the GOB in Exile is also carried by the Jacksonville web site : http://www.bso-na.org/an_invterview_with_mir_azaad_khan_baloch.html
Dostaen Baloch became a political outcast after he attacked Ghulam Mohammed Baloch in a yahoogroups.com message as an I.S.I. agent. His attack came just hours before Ghulam Mohammed Baloch's slaying at the hands of Pakistani intelligence services became public on April 7, 2009.
Dostaen Baloch wrote: "Waja Ghulam Mohammad's role has been doubtful... Can some ask this paid ISI Agent what is he upto??"
Some analysts suspect that both the web poll and the GOB-in-exile might have been the handiwork of a foreign spy service, but others say no respectable agency would try to hoodwink and anger the Baluch masses and their pro-independence leadership.

I am presently visiting Fiji and if I conduct a local survey on the most popular Balochistani, I am sure that I shall win with a wide margin. I would rather refrain from such childish ventures and would even not waste time on highlighting it. I often used to be impressed to read in Pakistani Urdu papers that Mr So&So has been included in the 1000 most influential people's directory, until I discovered that all one has to do is pay around US$ 500 to get the name included and also pay some more money for the copies of the directory to be sent to the people one wanted to impress. This seems like a similar scam. The only way to decide who is the most popular Baloch leader is through a genuine electoral process and that, alas, seems nowhere in sight. On a lighter note, I am not so surprised at the dismal performance of some other leaders, but am rather amused at the meteoric rise in the popularity of our friend Dr Wahid!

Salaam Alaikum Mustikhan, I have never heard about this poll or seen it before. As it says only 70 people voted, I believe most of them were the people (friends or relatives) close to Dr. Wahid that's why they've voted him.The leadership after separation is a big issue to be resolved. I think this could be the main question in the mind of all those Baloch people who are not supporting the activist movement. They are totally unaware of the political system and the leader going to take control. I personally believe that there is going to be a big dispute on that. As there are already 100s of political parties in Balochistan, opposing each other, even the national parties having the same cause of Greater Balochistan, has shattered. All these parties are desperate for supremacy. The leadership issue needs to be addressed earliest possible and that will support the liberalization movement better, if the disputes among parties be resolved and they work together to achieve their goal will succeed, Inshallah. I personally know Khan of Kalat and met him he's a nice man. I would support him.

Firstly, I believe this is too early to evaluate or grade Baloch leaders. Secondly the survey's foundational structure is totally a collapsed base. If the survey was among the popular political leaders of Balochistan then why many of activists are included? Though it would sound better if survey named as Who is the National Hero of Balochistan? An activist, politician, economist, poet, businessman, etc etc can become the hero. Finally i would say is this wasnt a survey but a Big BS.

Hail Don Quixote of Panjgur. The greatest mystery to me has always been the role of the joker in a deck of cards or society for that matter. How does he live with himself - every day of his life, without questioning who he is. Really, who is this guy? Amir Jamal

To be or not to be that is the question, i dont think so but may be............. i didnot see the poll...........i think Nawab Khair Baksh Marri supporters are much more and we put Khan and Dr Wahid in same shoes. The roll of Khair Baksh Marri is infront of us and we also know the others. Its most important to love with the homeland rather than the personalities.

Only a Lunnate / Pagal and day dreamer can accept the results of that poll. This poll is fabricated, and has no relationship with the ground realities. There is a always a difference between a "PAPER LION / KAGHZEE SHAIR" and a "REAL LION". Real Lion will always remain Real Lion, and a WATER BUBBLE / PUPPET / or PAPER LION has nothing to do with the realities. Actually, through that Poll they tried to undermine the genuine Baluchi leadership.

Among the current existing Baluchi leadership, there is no match of Nawab Khair Bux Marri.
at 15:41 on February 2nd, 2010
No doubt, there is no match of Nawab Khair Bux Murree

Hello to allEveryone can see this poll is a fraud and this is not first fraud by Dr Fraud. The very first shame action was the change of his name from Dostaen to Wahid then calling himself a Dr (Dr of What?). He got more votes than all popular Baloch leaders including the great Nawab Marri, Baloch young great leader Brahumdagh Bugti, and Khan of Kalat and he think we are going to believe this vote - What a loony he is!There is nothing to worry though, because the He has no roots in Balochistan and he has been socially and politically boycotted by Baloch in diaspora. Everyone has dissociated themselves from him. The other cheap act is he thinks a Baloch can abuse another Baloch for only $500, maybe a fake Baloch like Dr Wahid would not hesitate to swear a Baloch for money but no real and patriot Baloch can ever abuse a fellow baloch for money. Today on Yahoo groups I was reading another story; that he has reported the members of American Friend of Balochistan to the US authorities and accused them of running of a sleeper cell of BLA and other Baloch freedom fighters. Now, that is really really cheap. American Friends of Balochistan is one of the most trusted Baloch Organisation abroad they are working hard to expose the atrocities of Pakistan and Iran against Baloch people. All their meeting and demos they always adopted political, peaceful and democratic methods which is their right in a democratic and free country like the United States of America. All Baloch abroad and in Balochistan love and look up to the American Friend of Balochistan. They have organized the first ever very successful International conference on Balochistan. Long live Baloch struggle for freedom and long live free and united Balochistan - Ameen

Dear All, Can someone please provide some evidence..I have never see this poll...If some carries a poll to say earth is square, will you belive it. This appears to malitious campaig to discredit Dr Whid. It appears supporter of Pakistan trying to create a rift amongst Baluch. Even a child can see this kind of attack is done by someone who cannot pin anything on Dr Whid. I am amazed how some people have written lengthy article on false report.

Dear Mureed:
Please see Wahid (Dostaen) Baloch comments:
"The web poll which was ran by Mirdora.com, was not a fake one but a true poll that people voted for. It was a true reflection of our good work, honesty and sincerity that we are doing for our downtrodden people, even though we didn't ask anybody to put our name on the ballot ....."

Dear Mureed, Che Mureed or Tariq Sabru, first of all Dr Wahid is not a credible person that you think someone will need to run a campaign to discredit him. We know he is your friend but I think you become friends with the wrong person. You said "If some carries a poll and says earth is square" do we believe in that? The answer is NO, we will not believe. This poll is precisely same as your example Dr Wahid selected himself as a leader though a fake poll and WE DO NOT BELIEVE HIM. For more check this link : intellibriefs.blogspot.com/2007/08/balochistan-net-pool-says-drwahid.html ........This website is run by a good friend of Dr Wahid and he would lie about his best friend.
