Thank God, luckily loss of life is limited as well as those injured. Is it a signal for worse things to come? Bangalore must guard against the designs of terrorists and anti social elements out to spoil name and fame of the city as the IT Capital of India.

There are reports of serial bomb blast in the silicon valley of India.  Reports are coming in that Bangalore capital city of Southern Indian province of Kanataka had at least six explosion. More details are expected.

There have been at least six explosions in the southern Indian city of Bangalore, police say.

Early reports say at least one person has died and several are injured. The cause of the explosions is not clear.

The blasts have been described as low intensity and all are reported to have occurred in crowded areas.

Bangalore is the information technology hub of India with more than 40% of the country's IT and software industry based there.

Two persons including a woman have been killed and about 20 injured in seven blasts that rocked the southern city of Bangalore on Friday (July 25), police officials said.

Confirming the reports of blasts, Police Commissioner of Bangalore -- Shankar Bidri -- said that explosives were hidden in relatively crowded areas of the city. Bomb disposal squads have been rushed to the blast site.

"In all these cases they have created the blast using timer devices," Bangalore Commissioner of Police Shankar Bidri told reporters at the site of one of the blasts. "Explosives have also been used, in quantity equal to one or two grenades."

MR Pujar, additional police commissioner for Bangalore said "crude explosives" had been used.

"There were seven low-intensity explosions," he said. "Some of them were in crowded areas. At least person was killed and 15 to 20 were injured."

Sources in the Intelligence Bureau have told TIMES NOW that the blasts could have been carried out by LeT and SIMI and that they could be retaliatory in nature. Police had arrested several SIMI and Let operatives in the last six months.

The first blast took place at around 1:30 pm at the Madivala check post in the city. The other blasts have been reported from Adugudi, Ashoknagar, Hosur Road, Koramangala, Shantinagar and Langford town.

Located in central Bangalore, near to the M.G. Road and Cantonment Railway Station, Shivaji Nagar is an important transport hub and important commercial centre.

The city have been put on high-alert. Majority of schools, shopping malls and cinema halls have been closed down and telephone networks have been jammed following reports of blasts.

The police commissioner has appealed to the people to maintain calm in the city.

This list of attacks is shocking, but gives us some perspective on the suffering inflicted in India. And the one train where all the Paks died is a surprise.

SHIVAPRASAD, I'm sorry. These cowardly murderers just had to attack a leading profit center, didn't they? Hope they catch them.

This is extremely important, given the technological base that Bangalore is for not only India, but the world.

Any updates on who's claiming responsibility for this?

It seems like it is work of congress govt. All the recent blasts have happened in B.J.P ruled states. It is important to note that most of the states like rajasthan m.p. and chattisgarh which are ruled by B.J.P will be going to polls later this year.

Here's an update from Om Malik (GigaOM):

Over the past few years, the quaint and sleepy town of Bangalore has been transformed into a highly compressed version of Silicon Valley, only with worse housing and transportation problems. Some of the bigger technology companies — Texas Instruments, Intel and Qualcomm — have offices there, along with home-grown Indian tech giants like Infosys Technologies. This doesn’t even count the dozens of call center operators and outsourcing companies that make their home in the city.
